I was waitlisted by Cal Poly SLO for mechanical engineering. I mailed letters about my desire to go there, extracurriculars/work/awards (not available to put on the application), and my knowledge of drafting computer programs. One letter went to the admissions office, and the other to the dean of engineering. I’ll asked them to contact me so I can meet with them, but they have not called me since I mailed the letters a week ago, should I call them or is it just the snail mail? Opinions?

This is sort of an appeal. The letter from Santa Clara University said that appeal letters wouldn't start being read until mid-May. I'm guessing it would be similar. Hope this helps.

My daughter is also waitlisted @ CalPoly SLO for Aeronautical Engineering. It is my understanding that they will not accept any letters or other documentation for an appeal. Let us know what you find out.

its not an appeal, its trying to get off the waitlist

I talked to CalPoly SLO Admissions today & they said if you send an email or letter to their office saying their school is your 1st choice, they will move your name up the waitlist. This was news to me, because I was told previously there is no "ranking" on their waitlist. So, here's hoping we can get off the waitlist & into the school! Although, housing will probably be off-campus at this point from what we've heard.

for housing: they guarantee housing for freshman so no worries there

I emailed the admissions advisor asking him what I should do in for an appeal.
I gave him the reason that Cal Poly is my top choice. He sent the email to someone else and two weeks later, I recieved news I was accepted. =] Just like what 08mom said.

^ What major? My friend (waitlisted) got a letter today that said her major was full and they were glad she applied anyways. ;/

i am on the waitlist for cal poly also. do u know where i can sent my email to the office, ie: do u have to email address? or mailing address?

thank you so much…

For the comment that they guaranteed housing: Several years ago, when my son was a freshman, they didn’t guarantee housing. One of his buddies got off the wait list but had to find off campus housing. They have added a bunch of on campus apartments so things could have changed. If guaranteed housing is important, you should check with the admissions office.

there isn’t guaranteed housing for anyone at cal poly.
