Waitlist Question! Please Help!

Okay so I just got off the waitlist at my dream school.

But in these past few months I've really fallen in love with the school that I submitted my deposit to and it's really going to break my heart telling them that I won't be coming next year.

Does anyone have any advice or suggestions on how I break the news to the second school?

Thanks in advance!

Which school do you prefer? Which is the better fit for you? You aren't obligated to go just because you're admitted from the waitlist. Just make it College A vs. College B, and choose one of them.

Take another look at the reasons you choose the first college as your dream school. Maybe your priorities have changed since you applied, which explains why you love the second school as well. Don't go to the first one just because you've always wanted to go there.

Hmm. Sorry, I phrased the question wrong.

I'm pretty sure that I'm going with the waitlist college.

I need suggestions on how to tell the other school I'm not going to attend. Like should I do it by phone, letter, email?

colleges are not living, breathing people. a call is enough. they won't be sad; trust me.

Colleges are used to it. Another student will be all too happy to attend the school you turned down, or maybe the college won't be overenrolled.

A call or email is sufficient.

OP--I feel the exact same way! It's tough.. I still need to figure out how to send the letter. Especially since it's Duke that I'm rejecting, and they were incredibly wonderful to tell me early, invite me to Up Close for free, give me all this free stuff and talk about how they wanted me to go. >.< I really did love Duke, too.

Email - short and sweet. Just don't expect to get your deposit back. Just remember those schools didn't have any problem saying no to 90% of applicants. I also don't think you owe them a reason either because when they rejected applicants they didn't write a personal letter to tell you why.
