Waitlist question?

If the yield is low enough that Carleton turns to the waitlist, how does it work? I know they'll offer spots to a certain number of people off of the waitlist. But if somebody accepted from the waitlist turns down the acceptance, do they then move on to another person on the waitlist, or is that spot just lost? For example, if Carleton accepts 60 people off of the waitlist, and 20 of them decide not to attend, do another 20 people on the waitlist get a shot? Or is it just the original 60 and they just take whoever accepts from that and forget about the rest of the waitlist? Obviously those numbers are much larger than is likely, but I'm just speaking hypothetically.

They will generally continue accepting students from the waitlist until the class reaches the size they are targeting.

Why don’t you call the admissions office? I promise the staff members there won’t bite. :)

I’ve called a bunch of times already and I don’t want to get annoying. xD Anyways, they probably have important calls to attend to, and this question is merely curiosity; best they help someone who’s actually having a problem.

If Carleton is without question your first choice; you would honestly go there if accepted off the waitlist; and you have communicated this in writing to admissions, your work is done. Try to focus on other things for the next couple of weeks (like your homework & extracurriculars).

If things proceed as in past years, Carleton admissions will probably start making phone calls to waitlisted students starting around May 10, and will continue until all of the open spots are filled.

Yeah, I know that. I wasn’t asking about my own waitlist chances; I was just curious.
