Hi everyone,
I have just received “waitlist” offer from Bucknell University, in which I plan to major in Engineering. In the waitlist information enclosed, it is indicated that "Contacting us by phone, by email or in person will not alter our original decision about your application, nor will it influence how we decide to fill any potential vacancies that arise. ". Should I send additional updated information to show demonstrated interest in order to increase the chance of being admitted from the waitlist?
My son was waitlisted last year for Engineering. He is now finishing up his freshman year at Bucknell. His counselor sent in additional information including new grades. She also spoke with the admissions counselor at Bucknell. I would have speak with your college counselor at your HS. See if they have a rapport with Bucknell. In the end, I believed 3 or 4 students were offered spots in engineering from the waitlist.
Thank you so much for your advice! I think I should send new SAT Subject scores: 800 in Maths Level 2 and 730 in Physics with some new extra-curricular activities.
I really like the Engineering Program at Bucknell since it offers a top undergraduate engineering program, but the chance of getting out of waitlist is low. Does your son enjoy the freshman year at Bucknell? Would you mind telling me more about the academic aspect (especially in engineering), in which whether students get personal attention from professors? I want to do more research as I am an international student studying in the US for the first time.
Thanks ncyankee!
@EngineVim The engineering program (Chem specifically) has been challenging. From what he shares (ha) - he seems to enjoy his professors. He was disappointed last year when he didn’t get his top choice and then was waitlisted at Bucknell – but he really loves Bucknell & is very happy there.
I know he is in the process of applying for a research position. And there are quite a few international students - so you wouldn’t be alone.
