I was waitlisted by one of my top picks, and in my decision letter, it said to reply to the waitlist reply form as soon as possible for priority consideration. Given that this is a school that values demonstrated interest, do they take into account how fast an individual replied to the waitlist form, or is an individual given a bit of a preference for yield protection reasons (as they’d be more likely to go).
Its not like if you replied at 8:02 vs 8:05, but if you waited two weeks then that might make a difference.
Also they just want to know who is and is not on the waitlist and that probably urges people to make a decision.
