Waitlist question

apparently so
more space in Wharton than CAS
my admissions officer said that the same thing happened last year too

We're still only talking about a total of 20-25 waitlist admits across all 4 schools, so the number at Wharton can't be very large. And I'm sure Wharton's yield will remain in the 75-80% range.

i guess that's proof that penn (well wharton, at the least) only takes kids that are truly worth it.
or mebbe that means the pool of applicants was too weak to choose a substantial number from..?

It would be HIGHLY irregular for Penn to allow someone to change from waitlisted status at one school to another. I for one asked the question when I first heard I was waitlisted as I too was an economics major. I was told that they do not permit that. I was however acccepted off the waitlist last week and received my acceptance. I think it is more likely that Rooney was very connected at Penn and tried to use whatever help he could to get off the waitlist, and some he knew connected to Penn heard that Wharton might have had more waitlist spots and was trying to help him get off the waitlist at that school thinking they would try to see if they could switch him to that school. The fact that he was told someone would have to review it and get back to him, means more than likely that someone his family knew who was conneccted was trying to look into it at Penn. I highly doubt they would have allowed the switch. The fact that the congratulations letter says CAS indicates that he was lucky to get off the waitlist and get a spot at Arts and Sciences. I believe the chances that they would now say, no, we did not mean Arts and Sciences but Wharton seems unlikely I believe. If your acceptance letters says Arts and Sciences and you applied there that is wherer you are in. It sounds like it did not look like they were going to be able to offer you a spot off arts and sciences and someone connected as you mention you were connected thought Wharton might be a better angle to get in since you were an economics major, but I highly doubt they would have allowed it. They cannot make an exception like that for one but not for the other 1,000 who remained on the waitlist, and even the ones lucky enough to get off the waitlist in the group of 20-25, many of whom might be arts and sciences. Everyone would have liked the option. So congratulations. I would be very suprised if they now say you are into Wharton. Either way, congratulations. You are lucky to be one of the lucky ones to get in

I received my letter in the mail today, and I did not receive a phone call.

congrats!!!

any internationals off the waitlist ?

Paro, you really shoud change your name. Everytime I see your name, I visualize a Bengali whore frolicking around with Bollywood tunes in the background.
Unless that is the image that you want to perpetuate amongst people?

hahahahahah perhaps it is?

fine. gimme a name, tho

don't watch nearly enough b-wood movies and I don't know enough about you to suggest another name.
I guess paro works for now. ;)

Collegebound5, I appreciate your input. It's important to note though that I didn't talk to just some random person at Penn, it was one of the three associate deans, to whom I have no personal connection. He offered it of his own volition after a conversation with my college counselor. Although it is true that this is highly unusual, I don't see why one of the head admissions honchos would do this of his own volition if it were not possible. Hmm...

As I wait out in leftfield with a hocky puck, I am keeping score:

Rooney, I was only responding to your earlier posts about those who you knew at Wharton who were connected. The reason why it appears highly irregular is this: There are thousands of applicants who were accepted to arts and sciences at Penn, not waitlisted. None of them are offered the chance once accepted to switch over to Wharton. It seems highly unusual that someone who was waitlisted at Arts and Sciences would be given the opportunity to be accepted into Wharton over those who were actually accepted to Penn arts and sciences regular decision. Secondly, there was different admission criteria for Wharton then arts and sciences. There is no way to know if one who was waitlisted in arts and sciences at Penn would have been waitlisted at Wharton had they applied there instead. Someone could be waitlisted at arts and sciences but perhaps rejected at Wharton had they applied there. It seems very very unusual that someone who applied to arts and sciences and was waitlisted there would be given the chance to be accepted to Wharton, a school they did not even apply to and may or may not have been waitlisted had they applied there. It would mean that you were given the opportunity over those actually waitlisted at Wharton, and that you would be given the opportunity over those who were accepted regular decision arts and sciences who might have loved to take the Wharton waitlist spot. It just does not make sense.
My hats off to you if you could get it, but it seems highly unusual. I believe you that you say several deans mentioned it to you. I find it very unusual.

Collegebound, I completely understand your skepticism. I myself am completely unsure about which school I got into. It would be a highly irregular occurrence if I were to get into Wharton, but who knows. My college counselor told me that although it is very strange, you never know. I'll just have to wait and see. Tomorrow I'll post up which school it was.

lol Rooney I don't know why, but I am quite excited to hear the results. Which one do you want more?

Wharton. At the time when I was sending in my applications, I had a lot of personal stuff going on in my life. I didn't take the time to really introspect and think about what I was really interested in doing. So because of that I applied to CAS to broaden my options. Since then, I've realized that I want to do business, and that Wharton is an opportunity I shouldn't pass up.

Crib, two of my friends were accepted at Wharton.

Off of the wait list.

Then, 6 have been accepted off the list.
