I heard that you do indeed get screwed housing-wise.

But you are probably delirious with joy about the prospect of getting in!

Waitlisted at Wharton.

I just got a call today from a regional representative saying that they may be moving to the waitlist and they wanted to know if I was still interested. I said yes, definitely.

Then he asked if I would attend for sure if admitted, and I said I would have to see a financial aid package, but I would be very interested.

Do you think this is a good sign? After all, I did already send in my waitlist card, so they knew I wanted to be on the waitlist...

It would be a hard decision between Duke and Wharton, especially since I was all set in my mind on Duke. Oh well, have to get off first, so that might not even happen!

And I just saw that there is already a thread about this, as apparently this happened to others as well.

I e-mailed Penn's office the other day asking about the situation with wait lists, and I got a response saying that they may not even get to the list this year, and if so that it would be extremely limited. From what I'm reading now, this may not be the case. Was I just told this to soften the blow? Hmm...

No. The day before yesterday they said that they would not know if they were going to the waitlist for another week or two. Then yesterday some people got calls. The regular decision responses were postmarked May 1st and some probably did not come in until the 3rd or 4th. Then they had to tally them up. They probably did not know until the other day that they would take any from the waitlist.. I imagine there are not a large number of spots. It is decieving reading college confidential because it makes it appear as if a lot get off the waitlist. It might just be that those who post are those who had the best chances. If they have about 30 waitlist spots like last year I am guessing that they offer them to at least 60 initially to get thee 30. They will be calling people over the next few days as some say yes and some say they are no longer interested. Then there will be more waitlist spots over the next week or two as some who said yes got into their waitlist schools

my friend got a call saying that he would get into wharton off the waitlist if he wanted the spot. he has to decide by this afternoon though.

Yeah, I called Penn today and was told basically what Rooney said.

taebubu, your friend received this call today?

he was called yesterday. They wanted a response by today.

That is, the call that states that Penn will be working from the waiting list and is wondering about your interest. After saying, YES I WOULD LOVE TO ATTEND, does this mean an acceptance letter will arrive soon? Or, is Penn just checking their list to see who is naughty and who is nice? After, are you placed on Waiting List Part 2? I am not a fan of sequels. I usually leave the movie disappointed. Maybe not this time. (Aliens 2 was the best of course). More suspense...

If you tell them that you are interested and will accept, you should receive an acceptance package in the mail

Thanks for the feel good info.

So I got a call and they said, "If we were to go to the waitlist, would you still wish to attend UPenn?" Of Course I said "Yes!", but it wasn't as if they were for sure going to the waitlist, at least that's the impression I got, and it was not as if they told me that I was accepted. Anyone else got any opinions on what this may mean?

It means you're in--I don't think they'd go calling people if they weren't going to the waitlist, they're just being hypothetical.

haha that would be really grimy of my school
to call people, get their hopes up, ask if they'd still go,
then NOT take them off the waitlist?
grimy.
thusly, im sure its a good sign.

can anyone confirm this for sure? that if you receive such a call that you WILL be receiving an acceptance package unless you tell them that you changed your mind?

You will get an acceptance I feel confident over the next few days. They say "if they go to the waitlist" because they dont want to make it seem as if it is an official offer, because they are stilli nterested in yield and only want to send the acceptance packet if you will say yes. They dont want to formally offer someone the spot and then have them say they are not interested and have to count it as an offer of acceptance that was turned down

I will feel better with an acceptance letter in hand. Thanks for the info.

So far, these are the first rate second stringers that got the phone call:

And then the news from the Daily Penn... "Only 20-25 waitlisted students to be accepted" It is still wait and see...
Good Luck:)
