To clarify: Mom don't stress. Be like Dad-cool and calm.
Note: Because I did not get notification yet after the phone call my Mom said "Maybe you did not sound enthusiastic enough". Like now admin. officers have a voice inflection monitor that spikes based on joy. Weird stuff to consider;) I think YES (WITH EMPHASIS) will do.

jguy2, sorry to discard your theory about them admitting based on financial aid, but...
After I sent them the card saying I would be attending, I received an email requesting certain documents to be faxed over so they could actually create a financial aid package for me. I thought I had sent all my stuff in but apparently not.

Hang on in there. You never know till it's over.

Notifications must be coming soon. Columbia sent out their waiting list notifications today by e-mail.

I'm in a very strange situation. My college counselor was on the phone with someone from Penn yesterday. Later, he called back and said that we have very few spots open in CAS, and then asked if, since I had put econ as my anticipated major, I would go to Wharton if I got in. I went to the office and agreed with my counselor that I would love to go to Wharton. Then, I talked to this person again and he told me that he needed to know if I would take the spot, and if I was sure that business was what I wanted to do. I said yes to both queries. He said something to the effect of that he would get in contact with me in the next few days after some sort of "review?" From what I've been reading, have heard, and generally understand about the admissions/waitlist process, this is highly unusual. Can anyone try to make sense of this? As you can guess, I'm confused. I'm literally ecstatic at the prospect of getting into Wharton, but the suspense is absolutely killing me. Any help appreciated.

Wow rooney, sounds like you're in. I hope you sounded really excited over the phone and gushed about Penn. Congrats.

That's crazy - not enough spots in CAS so they're wondering if you'd "settle" for Wharton?

I'd also be interested to see your stats - could you post/PM them to me?

I was killed by a suspense death long ago. I still can't see into the future. Although, I will guess it this way...
Perhaps you are just a very lucky person. Good waiting:)

Ayy the suspense is killing me. The call was a combination of luck and positioning. The fact that I had econ as my selected major and talked about how much enthusiasm I had for the financial world in my essays showed my interest. Also, a few of my dad's friends who championed my cause were from Wharton. And lastly, my college counselor had read something in the WSJ which prompted her to call Penn, resulting in the conversation, then resulting in the call back. Really though, how good of a sign is this? I don't want to be disillusioned into thinking I will get in.

Here is advice to any of you who received a call from a regional admission officer asking about your interest in coming off the waitlist last week who did not receive a packet yet.
Call your regional admission officer and tell them that you were so excited to receive the call asking if you were interested and that you were hoping to get an acceptance packet and you have not received one yet and you just want to reiterate that you will definitely come if accepted.
I would do this. If you have not received an acceptance packet you dont know if all the regional admission officers made calls to their top picks to see the level of interest and knows you are interested but you were put on a list of someone they will accept later in the summer. I am sure all who got calls and expressed interest will be accepted. It is just that some are being accepted now and some will be later in the summer. You want to be one of those they accept now.

The counselor at my school said you should not call because it could be an annoyance. I was called twice. I returned the call and the officer called me back. I stated my interest by saying YES!!! I WANT TO GO!!! Prior to the call, I wrote a letter stating my interest and updates of accomplishments. Rooney seems to have an in. This is an advantage for rooney a disadvantage for me. But, that is the way things work. Good luck rooney. There is not much else I can do except maybe send a singing telegram.

Only a few got the acceptance packet right away. Good luck Crib. I am sure it will all work out

Hope so. Thanks.

Wow this is crazy. It sucks to have your hopes brought up after the initial call and then have to wait for more time.

But hang in there. This could be a long wait.

still haven't gotten the call. ughhhhhhhhhhh

Check online. It's the same site and same log-in info. I was called last week and just recently my online decision was changed from the waitlist letter to that of an acceptance :-)

I called. July 4th at the latest. Good luck. Crib631 out.

Wow. I just checked on my wait list page again to check the FAQs again. Then, I saw a huge "congratulations!". I'm literally ecstatic. However, as there always seems to be, there is a catch. It says "Congratulations! It gives me great pleasure to invite you to attend the University of Pennsylvania as a member of the College of Arts and Sciences." After that whole ordeal with transferring into Wharton, this seems strange. I am assuming that this is just because I jumped into the Wharton pool two days ago, and they didn't have the time to reconfigure my school online. What do you guys think? Either way, I'm super happy! Crib, I know how hard it is to wait man. The past two days have been some of the most stressful of my life. Just hang in there.

Congratulations!

rooney: I'm happy for you. But I suggest you call your officer just to find out what school you'll be attending. You two tentatively agreed on Wharton but it seems that your first-choice was CAS - so if he found a spot there, he may have shifted you there or something <-just mere speculation, but always good to check.

Yeah, I'm going to try to get in contact with someone at Penn ASAP. However, I find it odd that he would call me to talk about Wharton and urge me to go fax him immediately saying i would transfer into that pool. So as far as I know, at that point I was in the Wharton pool. Only time will tell. My acceptance packet will say no doubt.

lol theres space in wharton? does that happen? with the thousands of kids begging to be let in? hm interesting
