Hey everyone. First, I'd like to offer my sincere congratulations to everyone accepted to William and Mary's Class of 2015.

Unfortunately, I was waitlisted BUT I am still remaining positive! (I'm a male from the northern suburbs of Chicago, anyone else from Illinois waitlisted?)

I have visited the Frequently Asked Questions page on W&M's website regarding waitlisted students and have viewed archived pages on CC to see how other students have handled the process of being waitlisted.
William and Mary has always been my number one school so over the past few days of my spring break, I have been typing up a letter of continued interest to mail to my admission representative.

To get to the point, my questions are these:

I want to show William and Mary that it is my number one school by sending in this thought-out letter ASAP, but I have several possible awards that I may receive in the upcoming weeks. Should I wait to send this letter for the sake of the awards or send it and then (around may 1st) update the office of admission with any new awards/information as well (as it says on the Admit it! Blog).

My second question is BY NO MEANS being presumptuous but is just being asked to "cover all of my bases".
If William and Mary were to contact one with a waitlist decision by phone, which phone number will they use (and will there be an email accompanying it)? My largest fear is that I somehow don't receive the call if I were fortunate enough to be admitted off of the waitlist.

Lastly, I have decided (after a long discussion with my parents of course) that I will not be applying/in need of financial aid. I checked the financial aid box on the Commonapp and submitted the FAFSA and CSS Profile but wanted to communicate to my admissions officer that I will not be in need of it if I am admitted. Is this something necessary to include in the letter or email I will be sending?

On a side note I just watched this amusing video called "Tribe Trek" that I found on one of W&M's older blog posts.

Thanks again

I’m from Milwaukee! Waitlisted too. I don’t know the answers to all your questions, but I’m planning on sending a letter on may 1st. I don’t want to be too pushy with admissions this month, because I know they have all of the admitted student stuff going on, but I still want to show interest, ya know?

In terms of the notification, I’ve heard they use the home phone/what you provided on the common app, and you only get an email if they can’t reach you on the phone.

I’m rooting for all of the waitlisters. But if you don’t get in, I’m sure you’ll go somewhere else fantastic. Good luck! I am sending some serious good vibes down to Chicago!

Exactly, I don’t want to be the student that goes too far but I want the admission committee to know that this is my number one school.

Okay I figured it was by phone but I’m very relieved they send an email as well in case they cannot contact you by phone.

Thanks for the good energy and I hope some finds its way to Milwaukee as well.

We encourage you, should you wish to send an update/statement of continued interest to do so in mid-to-late April. We just want to ensure that those sending this info are doing so once they’ve had time to consider all their options rather than responding the instant they get the decision because your feelings may change in the weeks to come. You can send that statement/update direct to your regional dean via email when you’re ready.

If we admit students we try their cell phone first if listed in the Common App. Then we try home phone and then email if we can’t reach you by phone.

No need to update us regarding whether or not you need financial aid as that does not play a role in our decisionmaking.

Just showed my DD your post W&M Admissions. She will be sending in her letter in April. Positively loves W&M. Thanks again for all the info and support.

Absolutely. We’re here to help

Thank you W&M admission!
I will follow your directions and thank you as always for the informative, quick response.

I’m from a Northern Chicago suburb and I was waitlisted too! But considering that we’re part of the largest applicant group (to all colleges) in thirty years, I think earning a spot on W&M’s waitlist is something to be proud of. This was a tough year; none of the 28 students from my school who applied to Northwestern (not even salutorian legacies with 34’s on their ACTs!) were accepted. Best of luck-- I’m sure the interest you’ve invested in William and Mary will help you stand out on the waitlist.

Thanks glencoco98. I’m assuming you are from glencoe and I’m only a few miles from there.

Hopefully William and Mary goes to it’s waitlist this year. I am trying to get excited for the other schools I was accepted to but being on the waitlist keeps me thinking more about the Tribe than anything else.

We definitely encourage students to pursue other options, send a deposit somewhere else and let yourself get excited about another college/university. We wish we could predict whether we will use the waitlist but unfortunately we can’t and there are years when we do not admit students for the waitlist (disappointing we know because there are some amazing students there).
