If UChicago's waitlist is unranked, how exactly do they pick which students to admit - is it regional, based on interest shown, sports/music/ECs people they need? How much would a letter of continued interest and better grades help for a waitlisted applicant? thanks.

First of all, you should understand that the fact that you are on the waitlist means Chicago has already ‘approved’ of your academic achievements. As long as you don’t trash your grades with seniorities (Say…few Cs), grades would be of no concern.

Although waitlist is not ranked, most colleges choose students from waitlist based on regions, interest etc etc. It is not a lottery; they carefully review what type of students they need more, and select them. Yes showing an interest will definitely put yourself ahead of other waitlist applicants who didn’t. But don’t be surprised if you showed tons of interests to Chicago and then get rejected.

Higher GPA (e.g. 3.85-3.95 improvement) and higher say, IB predicted scores would help too right? Are they worth sending?

Also, how big of a factor is the quality of a letter if you sent one?
