Does Annapolis have a waitlist similar to West Point? or do they simply reject people and only notify them later if a spot has opened for them? I haven't heard anything so I assume some sort of rejection letter will come in the mail tomorrow.. thanks for the help

I have never heard of a waiting list at ANY Service Academy. I know USNA didn't have that in my day, but I can't speak for the present.

We were told by the admissions office at USNA while at the Candidate Weekend (last Friday) that you CAN be waitlisted. They said that you would receive a "yes", "no" or "waitlisted" letter. If you receive a "no" your file is closed for this year. If you are "waitlisted" you still have a chance for this year once other slots open up.

well the april 15th mail has come and gone and still no word.. any thoughts?

Yep.

Wait until the 17th, then the 18th, then the 19th.....

Welcome to the waiting game. You gotta be patient.

Hang in there...

haha exactly what i feared..

Yeah. It stinks. The waiting is horrible.

I'm curious. Why do you think it will be a rejection letter?

Do they give you any guidance on how slots may open, or what to do?

Are these the poor folks I hear hover outside the gate on I-Day, just in case?

Crikey! I think I'd rather just be rejected and be done with it; the stress would kill me.

are u referring to getting into NASS?

if so, same here, no mail, no letter . . .

I'm referring to the class of 2010. USNA has never contacted me about a waitlist, how many spots open up, rejection vs. waitlisting, when I might hear if I am waitlisted.

I only thought it would be a rejection letter because it wasn't an acceptance letter and I havent heard anything about a formal waitlist.

The stress is indeed killing me, zaphod! Come May 1st I'll accept USMA.. (I wonder what response that will draw from zaphod.. ha)

colbybuss - even if you don't get into NASS, it's really not the end of the world. I got into NASS but not West Point's summer seminar. Here I am now with an acceptance from West Point but not USNA. Interesting how that works..

Congrats on USMA!

wp2010, that gave me a little chuckle, it is weird indeed

My son received his official "no" in today's mail.
We are all feeling disappointed that the door is closed for this year, but he is ready to move ahead with plan B or C.
He has a full academic scholarship to The Citadel
He has alos been talking with the local Marine recruiter about the possibility of the Delayed Entrance Program. I'm not real sure of how it works, but it has something to do with the PLC (Platoon Leaders ? )
If all of that falls into place he would go to boot camp this summer then report to The Citadel in August. If not, he gets the summer off and reports to The Citadel in Aug. just like would any other college.
He will more than likey re-apply to USNA for next year since it has been his dream to go there. More than that though, he wants to be a marine officer and plan b and c are alternate ways to achieve that goal.
We believe that when God closes one door,he opens another.

I'm sorry to hear that anxious mom. It definitely sounds like your son has a bright future no matter what door he chooses.

Please be VERY carefull with DEP. There have been some horror stories around here where recruiters did not tell the whole truth (of course, the whole truth was in the document the student signed) and we've had some kids get yanked out of college (to their total surprise)and deployed to the war zones!

Honey, you have NO idea how true that is, or maybe you do. Either way, you're absolutely right.

Tell your son to roll with the punch and come back swinging next year. He'll be fine!

I'm not familiar with the DEP, but I AM familiar with FAR too many stories of recruiters playing bait and switch.

Get EVERYTHING in WRITING, and make sure you check the fine print. All recruiters care about is their quota, not your future.

I almost got suckered once, myself. Thank God my dad was more confident I'd get into USNA than I was. His fit that night changed my mind. :D

Sorry about USNA anxious mom but, what a plan B! Your son is truly one of the lucky ones that has an exceptional "option". And, yes, God does open another door when one closes.

Be safe, Happy Easter and God bless.

Going to bootcamp in the summer and then reporting to school does not sound right. My oldest son went into the Marines under the DEP and all that meant was that he was able to lock in an MOS but still could choose a bootcamp date on down the line. Most of the DEP kids were still in high school and were waiting to graduate. After 13 weeks of bootcamp all the graduating Marines, reservists and regular, went to 8 weeks of SOI or MCT. This would be 21 weeks of training at least before reservists were back home to resume a regular life.

The recruiters called often to inquire about younger son who had applied for NROTC and USNA. They tried toget him to sign telling him "noone gets those." Be very careful!!

Younger son did get an NROTC scholarship for 2005/2006 but did not get into USNA last year. He chose to decline the NROTC and go to a Prep school. He was offered an appointment to USNA this time and has accepted. Older son is doing well in the Marines and graduates from SOI this Tuesday.
