i was waitlisted at skidmore... i know this year was very competitive but i was still incredibly surprised

i loved skidmore, i had visited the campus twice, had a ridiculously good interview, and had all the stats. my ACT was a 32, above average GPA, good classes and good everything else

anyone in a similar situation? i was also waitlisted at Grinnell, Wesleyan, CMC, and Carleton, and accepted into BC and Macalester

waitlisted is still good, much better than a rejection. each independent school is looking for different things. some want students with high GPA's and grades, some want students who had strong essays, recs, and extracurriculars.

i'm sorry you were waitlisted, but you still have a chance. plus, if you really want to go to one of those schools you can write the admissions office a letter explaining why you think their school is a great match for you.

I was shocked when I received my rejection letter. What doesn't make any sense to me is that I was accepted at Cornell, but not Skidmore. I had a 31 ACT and a 2180 SAT, a 3.7 GPA, recieved some great recomendations, had excellent extracurriculars, and I wrote, what I considered to be a very good essay. The only reason that I can think of for not getting in was that I did have a fairly lengthy disiplinary record. Fortunately, none of the other schools I applied to seemed to mind...

Maybe 'tufts syndrome' - applicants that look like they applied to Skidmore as a safety being waitlisted as a way of avoiding poor yield statistics, but if the applicants considers Skidmore a top choice, they will respond seeking to be cleared off the waitlist.

No way of knowing more without being inside the adcom deliberations.

i am actually now pretty angry at skidmore... yesterday they sent me a letter telling me to go on the wait list for the london program and sent me a package advertising it... and yes it was in a large envelope which caused great confusion in my household
i think i'm going to remove myself from the waitlist and just concentrate on the other schools i'm waiting for, which are (in my opinion) much higher caliber than skidmore
i loved the school and had a chance of going there. i'm gonna go ahead and say this was their loss :)

you're angry because they gave you the chance to possibly study in london for a semester....? or because that information came in a large envelope?

collegeprep11- my s got waitlisted at both skidmore and mac. You would say waiting for mac is worth it vs skidmore not worth it? Why or why not?

it's been one day...the admissions office has undoubtedly not even received notifications from most of the accepted students yet, not even counting the time it takes to enter the information into the system, print out new letters, stuff all those envelopes...it takes time. be patient. good luck.

I don't think they notify by snail mail- at least from all the other waitlist threads it seems as if it's by phone. But, yes, patience is needed!

I got off of Skidmore's waitlist today -- so it's definitely moving. I think I'm going to stay with Hamilton though. Good luck, acme and emizzly

btw skidmore accepted me off of their wait list a little over a week ago, and i respectfully declined. i would have most likely gone there had it not been for the fact that they originally wait listed me, but oh well, what's done is done
