Waitlist statistics

So, does anyone have any statistics on the wait list for this year, or for previous years. How many in past years have been placed on it/ how many taken off of it.

Does anyone know if Duke ranks its waitlist, or re-evaluates? Can the rankings change?

I want to make a really big push to get off the waitlist (make a plane flight to go visit even...) just looking for info. According to my father, there is a law or something that says they must tell you how many people are on it or something? Maybe he just made that up?

bump, still looking for some ideas.

If you ask them they probably will release those statistics. It depends on how many people accept Duke's offer. Right now they've projected a 44% yield - if it's higher than that, it's very unlikely they'll take anyone off the waitlist.

Last year was brutal. I think only around 20 people were accepted off the waitlist. The year before, however, was four times that number.

well that is 20 chances, which is better than none.

Do you know how many people they put on the waitlist?

My S is on the waitlist, and we may visit too. I read that between 10 and 75 have come off the waitlist in the recent past. There is a lot of negative talk about the Durham environment this year. Maybe some will go elsewhere. I'm sure it's still among the best in the nation, so good luck.

Has anyone else not gotten their waitlist letter in the mail yet? I don't know how i can choose to be put on the waitlist online and I don't know if i should be worried yet.

I have not either... Duke is the only decision letter I have not received a hard copy of...

Did anyone receive a hard copy for an admission or rejection either?

me neither!!!! i've got all my other decisions letters but the waitlist letter from Duke is still missing!

One of my good friends here was deferred early and then waitlisted. He's here now, and loving it. Don't give up hope!!

Thanks BandCampGirl... do you know if the waitlist was ranked... or if your friend did anything special to get off it (write letters, more recs... new grades?) Thanks

I got my waitlist info in Oregon. Can I just send back the postcard saying I want a spot on the waitlist, and then send in the letter why I want to go a bit later?

do follow-up interest letters usually make a big positive difference or do the admissions people get flooded with so many of them that they end up being annoyed with the senders?... i have no idea how that works or what the next steps are after waitlist if you want to get in

GCards- What info was contained in it? Did it tell how many were on it? Any other statistics given in there? Did they suggest you do anything explicitly?

it just had the online letter, a list of faq's, and a reply card. it said usually about 1,000 people are on it (for both schools) and anywhere from 1-76 have gotten in to for each school (Trinity and Pratt have seperate lists). not a lot of help. i've been trying to get things moving, but it appears nothing can really be done until they know how many spots...

I know this sounds silly, but I'm lucky to be waitlisted instead of being rejected with 81% of applicants.

Yes, I want to be proactive... but not overly pestering. I dont know who to contact though... whether to email, write letters, etc.... You don't want to bug them... but you want to do all you can.

I was told by an admission officer yesturday that approximately 1600 people are on the waitlist, they will not know for sure how many will accept a position on the list. Also it would depend on how may of the accepted students will attend ,then they will go to the list and based on who they're looking for they will choose ( gender, race, major, school, region).
She also recommend any additional achievements you have received along with a letters saying why you would be agood fit and all that good stuff.

The notecard asks whats institution you plan on attending? I really don't know where I am going...? Do you think it would be harmful or hurtful to put a good university...? They must ask for a reason... any input?
