Waitlist stats

Being on the waitlist (despite any Bowdoin news article reference) and actually getting an offer to attend the College is not likely.

In the past (though the College tries to hide the stats) the waitlist is seldom harvested. If it is vistited this year, the yield will likely be less then one percent.

Bowdoin is much like other elite LACs, few are those on the waitlist who get accepted.

Check out the waitlist stats on another forum. Bowdoin is comp to Midd with these stats. They only have 8 spots for transfers with over 200 apps.

It all depends on the yield of RD acceptees though.

Exactly right.

"in recent years the number of students admitted off the waitlist has ranged from five to fifty"

-Bowdoin Waitlist Letter

I actually think, though am not expecting it, that waitlistees this year have a better chance than any other year given the EXTREMELY competitive nature of this year's college admissions.

Bowdoin is arguably a relatively obscure school in terms of prestige and reputation, especially on a national/international level. Despite the posts on this forum along the lines of "Bowdoin or Dartmouth? Bowdoin or Duke?" your average name-brand college monger will choose the more well-known and esteemed school. As an aside, with students this year applying to 15-20+ schools, the chance it will be Bowdoin is slighter---there are of course a few outliers....

There are already reports of students being accepted off of waitlists at Duke, Rice and Washington&Lee.

tomorrow's the big day---best of luck to waitlistees in the coming weeks...

Lecourbeau-- do you know when waitlistees are supposed to hear back? I'm guessing around May 15th, but I just realized I kinda made that date up in my head...

your guess is as good as mine...

but I would say around mid-May as well...

So I talked to Admissions today and they told me they'd get a better idea of where they were in terms of spaces available to be filled by the waitlist (their target enrollment is 480) by the end of the week...they told me they'd start telling people sometime next week or the one after....

Does anyone know how the waitlisted students are notifies, by mail or phonecall and how much time they are given to decide?

Article in today's bowdoin orient regarding class of 2010 & waitlist

<a href="http://orient.bowdoin.edu/orient/article.php?date=2006-05-05&section=1&id=9%5B/url%5D">http://orient.bowdoin.edu/orient/article.php?date=2006-05-05&section=1&id=9</a></p>

parentof 3, it may have changed since then, but my D was notified by phone on a Monday or Tuesday afternoon in early May a couple of years ago and given until the following Monday to decide. Later that week she got another call asking if she had decided yet and reminding her of the deadline. She made a second visit that weekend (had intitially/interviewed during application process) and made her decision on Monday as originally requested.

does anyone know haw many are on the waitlist?

if accepted off the WL, are we expected to pay sticker price regardless of financial need?

Okay we have until the "following Monday" to decide...but do we receive some sort of aid package...because that's a make or break thing for my family...

The yield rate is turning out to be better than expected so Bowdoin may not dip into the wait list. Here's the article from the Bowdoin student paper on the subject:

<a href="http://orient.bowdoin.edu/orient/article.php?date=2006-05-05&section=1&id=9%5B/url%5D">http://orient.bowdoin.edu/orient/article.php?date=2006-05-05&section=1&id=9</a></p>

Yeah, polarbearmom posted that.

In any case, I just called Bowdoin and spoke with an admissions officer and he told me that they were even OVER their enrollment yield target...

To console me he said some admits will undoubtedly decide to defer their matriculation or may be admitted off another waitlist at another school, leaving Bowdoin with another spot.

He told me that they'll see where they TRULY are at in terms of whether or not they'll dip into their waitlist in about 2-3 weeks (he originally told me it would be by mid-next week that they'd know)...so as he told me, "just sit tight"

I really hope that I get in. I know that it isn't realistic, but I don't want to go to Michigan at all

Same here. It's here or San Diego for me....

bump it up

Any new information from anyone?
