I was waitlisted at UNC Chapel Hill during the regular decision cycle and I was wondering if there was anything I could do to improve my chances. I know it says that they don’t require any additional information to be sent, but at this point (with UNC being my top choice), I have nothing else to lose.
@pharmahopeful Submit your deposit at another school and hope you win the luck of the draw. UNC waitlist is a lottery that sometimes barely even moves a given year. You’ll just have to wait it out and realistically move forward with your plans for attending another institution next year unless you are the lucky one.
What do you mean by “lottery”. Are you saying they don’t review the applicants, but just randomly pick off of the list?
According to the Admission website:
https://admissions.unc.edu/admissions-blog/2018/03/23/faqs-students-waiting-list-decision/
You need to be realistically prepared to attend a different school. Last year, 2% In-State (24 out of 1028) and less than 1% OOS (11 out of 1311) were admitted from the Waitlist – no matter how they are selected. And after the crazy application/admission process this year, those percentages are probably even lower.
I’m not saying that you won’t be lucky (who knows?), I just hope you’re prepared to go elsewhere.
@pharmahopeful Yes, UNC knows all of its waitlist applicants are overly qualified so they don’t do a review of their applicants and randomly draw them. However, as the previous poster stated yout focus now should realistically be with another collegiate institution as UNC is not known to show much movement off the waitlist except for a very, very lucky few. It is highly unlikely you are taken off the waitlist.
