So, I cannot find a conclusive answer to this question...

When is the optimal date to send your major update/ letter of interest when trying to get off of a waitlist? I have, of course, already responded that I intend to stay on the wailist, but I have a (fairly) large LOI. Am I already running behind?

Also, when should you optimally call to ask questions/ try to get in contact with your reader?

timing is important but the content is obviously more important. Make the reader want to accept you. Focus more on that and not just rush in a mediocre letter.

Thanks! With that in mind, is there a "deadline" or latest point? I never find an end-point for improving my writing, so if I have a deadline I can just send it in then.

well obviously there's the may 1st deadline... but that's really the only deadline. i'd say send your stuff in well before may 1st so you can be sure it gets there in time for them to review it.
