so palmbeach33480 was right all along! just wondering why they wanted to give us false hopes...

well now i'm glad i didn't pursue the waitlist...although i have to say i was very tempted....i had a feeling this would happen

yes abcd87.. i knew i had a good source.. why was I so wrong to deliver the knowledge that was passed on to me?... but really-- any "source" could be wrong- it was important to get the OFFICIAL answer from JHU Admissions

"false hopes" -- "undelivered promise"???

hmmmm...I think at times some of you forget that I respond to CC posts (or update the Hopkins Insider blog, or created the JHU message boards) as a service for you all. This is not something I have to do, it is not part of my job responsibilities, and I definitely do not get paid extra for doing this. I choose to do it as I respect the "counseling" aspects of my job. The Admissions process can be a confusing one with much misinformation. I choose to provide updates so that you all can get an inside view of what is going on in our office and understand how things work and our timelines.

Not to re-hash the discussion about "sources" once again, but I will state emphatically once again that decisions are not finalized until letters (or emails) have been sent. This is absolutely true of how we make admissions decisions for ED or RD, and as well it is how we make decisions with regards to our wait list. Because in early May it may have appeared we would not need to go to the wait list, it did not mean that when all was said and done we would not take a few students off. Those decisions were not made until the first of June, when the Director did his last review of the numbers and instructed the staff to release the letters.

Let's look at the situation this way: What if I had posted in early May that it looked like we would take some students off the wait list. Then at the end of the month we didn't. THAT IS FALSE HOPE. Or, what if I had stated we were not going to take any one off the wait list in early May, and then we needed to take some students off at the end of the month. Once again, false information and haven't I than done a disservice to my colleagues and boss???

The only "undelivered promises" were that decisions were released two days later, and I was on vacation so not able to update immediately. I respect you want immediate answers, but unfortunately there are delays and people do need some time off.

Sorry for the rant. But I am and will always be honest with you all. I must say that some of the comments recently have offended me, and made me question whether posting on CC is in my (and JHU's) best interest. Maybe in the future you will think before posting a snap judgment -- how many other schools out there are producing an inside voice from the Admissions Office.

[[[And for those of you who see fit to thank me, and appreciate what I contribute -- I thank you.]]]

False Hopes?
Look at every other board that isn't lucky enough to have a College Rep to share accurate information! They're full with rampant speculation. At least when Admissions Daniel says something we know it's not just some 17 year old making stuff up based on a previous rumor.

Give the guy a break on getting back to you a few days late. Look at the times of day he answers posts. Often it's late in the evening. He deserves a vacation.

Seriously guys, chill out. You guys are not the only ones on any kind of waitlist for a school... I don't think you understand how lucky we are to have a representative share his knowledge and perspective of the school and admission process.

Do you think JHU will still accept students off the waitlist at this point?

from the previous post on the blog yes... its just how i read it.

Not more than 10 students, however, I would expect.

I wish to know if JHU is still accepting students off the waitlist. I hope someone has an answer.

PM admissionsdaniel.

i think somewhere in the forum, admissionsdaniel asked for no pms lol...but can;t quite remember lol just post on the forum or send an email to the admission office gl!
