I was accepted and will be attending.

I was rejected. They put it pretty nicely though.
Dear ______,

In my prior correspondence, I promised you more news concerning your candidacy for Columbia.

We have now heard from all of our admitted students, and the Class of 2009 is full. This leaves us with the responsibility of informing you, unfortunately, that we are removing your name from the waiting list so that you may go forward with your plans for the coming year.

This has been an extraordinary year at Columbia in that both the quality of the applicant pool and the responses to our offers of admission have exceeded our expectations. While the Committee on Admissions recognizes and applauds your record of academic and personal achievement and is furthermore convinced that the contributions you could make at Columbia would be worthwhile ones indeed, we are unable to admit any additional students for the Class of 2009.

I am confident that you will be successful in college and wish you the best in all your endeavors. Thank you again for your interest in Columbia.

Oh well, at least now I get to send in everything for unc and start getting ready for that.

thinkjose: were you also waitlisted at Columbia!?

2 kids from my school were accepted off the waitlist (funny, 'cause exactly two of the kids who got in originally decided not to go. I know thats not how they do it, but its an amusing coincidence), and both will be attending.

I received an email and was not accepted...o well..I'll be attending Wesleyan!!!! YAY!!!!!!! 09 BABY

I'm OFF THE WAITLIST! WOOHOO!

Got a call on Thursday in school followed by an e-mail Thursday @ 5 (didn't get the chance to post on CC until now).

Soooooooooo HAPPY!

tamy, I'm just posting around. I didn't even apply to Columbia! Nonetheless, it's good that you're going to Penn next year. :)

Oh, and for those of you who are wondering...I sent them a one-paged letter, 2 extra letters of recommendation from my counselor and a teacher, and I made contact with my regional rep. I was extremely reluctant to send extra recs, but my counselor insisted (and I guess it worked!).
