It looks like we are very close to our targets for the Class of 2015. We will be making a small number of waiting list offers. I don't have an exact number for you right now, but my sense is that the total number of offers will be lower than in previous years and the offers will most likely be to students on the waiting lists for the College of Arts & Sciences, Architecture, and perhaps Nursing. I do not anticipate there being any offers made to engineers.

Thanks for keeping everyone informed as soon as you have information to share Dean J!

That’s unfortunate for the people on waiting lists, but it shows that UVa is still attracting a high yield of accepted students, even with the increase in tuition.

As noted elsewhere, if UVa would be in a position to offer more merit aid, it would have an even higher yield rate. Many students prefer UVa, but pick other universities because they offered large merit scholarships.

I know for a fact that srh175 is not a ■■■■■. The poster received an email on 5/4 (one is allowed to use cell phones – not in class, of course – at the poster’s school). srh175 was asked to call someone in admissions to discuss the application. srh175 was able to call back, and ultimately confirmed acceptance later in the day, after school got out.

srh175 is in-state, and relevant people had submitted additional recommendations on the poster’s behalf. The poster also submitted a list of recent achievements, and third quarter grades which fortunately are excellent.

Getting into UVa means so much to srh175, and the last month has been difficult (as I imagine it is for all on the waitlist). The poster has turned down good opportunities at other schools. It is highly insulting to dismiss srh175 as a ■■■■■. The original post was probably slight inaccurate as the poster was so excited and feels extremely honored. srh posted in haste.

That explains the time of the call, but not the fact that he/she claimed to be admitted to a school that hasn’t extended any offers to waitlisted students yet.

And how would you know this for a fact? You don’t even seem to know whether “the poster” is male or female, so it doesn’t sound like you go to his/her school.

I am srh175’s mother, that’s how I know the poster’s circumstances “for a fact”. I am just trying to protect the poster’s identity. I wouldn’t normally speak for srh175, but I was incensed by the assumption that he/she is a ■■■■■.

Dean J said in her blog that waitlist offers would be made 5/4, and srh175 received the email late in the morning of 5/4. I don’t understand Dean J saying that “offers to the College” had not been made as yet in her comment above. srh175 paid the deposit on SIS yesterday, after they had updated the relevant page.

srh175 intends to study Classics, and is not sure yet about other subjects. Acceptance at UVa is truly a dream come true, and srh175 had not wanted to imagine too much what studies could be undertaken in case of disappointment.

I think we both regret posting here on CC. I understand what a fraught business this is, and it is so extremely stressful, but it is sad to see young people expressing such suspicion and disdain for others.

Highly insulting… The kid has two posts and is the only one to receive an acceptance up to this point. I’m sorry if you were insulted, but it looked like a ■■■■■.

Edit: I just read the motets post. Wow, while I was reading her first post I almost knew it was his mom. Congrats on your son’s acceptance, but you n

Totalcynic, congratulations on the acceptance!!! There are so many ■■■■■■ on CC and many post fake acceptances and waitlist movement, which of course freaks out those that are still waiting on spots. No one is intentially being mean, they’ve just seen it all before and are skeptical to protect others on waitlist. I agree though, it’s a dream come true! Best.

Jkiwmom, you hit the nail on the head. Totalcynic, tell your son I say congratulations. He must have been a fantastic candidate if e was selected off the waitlist.
