So now Dean J is the liar here? Please…

Perhaps there is a special case involved here or someone who switched schools because as of this morning when I checked with Dean Roberts, no one was working with waiting list for the College. We work in teams on the different populations within the class. We were working with a different group yesterday.

We call after we feel school is out, but before we go home for the day. If we can’t get the student on the phone after trying them for a few days in a row, we might email them, but that is not the ideal way to make an offer. Students don’t seem to check email all that often these days.

Congratulations on the offer. :)

I’m sorry I should have clarified, I got an email that morning and then called to receive the news.
I did not intend to upset of confuse anyone which I seem to have done (UVAorBust) I was simply posting my offer in order to alert anyone else on here who might be expecting one, not to “■■■■■”.
UVAorBust-- While this is the internet and you’re free to say what you like, I’d appreciate it if you didn’t make comments such as “cut the cord” as you don’t know who I am or anything about me. Especially on such an informal site I find it very unnecessary.
Thank you to the others for your congratulations!

I did not mean to offend you. But when your mom comes on here and starts telling all the members how miserable an experience they’ve made it for you, that’s what I find unnecessary. Congrats on your acceptance. But, I think you took everyone’s comments the wrong way. When people start saying they were accepted off the waitlist it stirs a lot of emotion. I only made the “cut the cord” comment ecause IMO your mom came on here to protect you from something that wasn’t even a threat. I hope no one has offended you, and I’ll see you next year.

PS - I’m surprised your mom is so shocked to see young people expressing such suspicion. There are over a thousand students who I’m sure are dying to hear good news and are questioning every bit of new info. And maybe it is just a mother protecting her son, but have you not thought of the other thousand students anxiously waiting to hear good news?

The internet is a difficult place to express yourself on. It looks like we’ve just misunderstood each other.
Best of luck!

No problem. What classic are you planning on majoring in. I’ve taken Latin for four years. I’m going for Spanish though at UVA :D

Ancient Greek and Latin. I’ve heard Spanish is very popular at UVa!

UVAorBust - I’m not a first year, but I just got accepted as a transfer, and I MUST meet you.

Hysterical thread. I remember my first time on the internet…

You are extremely lucky to have a parent that cares so much about you and is involved. Usually kids that don’t have that support will do the name calling, i.e. “Helicopter mom or dad”, ■■■■■", etc. Also, I was called a ■■■■■ on cc when I answered UVA’s thread on why I rejected UVA, so don’t feel bad. Sometimes I think these bloggers don’t have a life.

Lol as they say at my school “it’s tight in here.”

Brishe, that’d be awesome. I don’t have a FB, but when I make one (sometime this week) hit me up.

Congrats as well for your transfer acceptance. That is a huge deal!

I’ve gotta meet you too, UVAorBust.

If you’re going to session B, maybe I’ll see you there… If not, I’ll have FOUR years to find you haha.

Thought this was for Fall 2011 Transfer Decisions and my heart skipped a beat. That is rather unfortunate for waitlisted RD applicants I was waitlisted when I applied as a senior in HS and didn’t get off. Now I’ve applied again for Fall 2011 Transfer and got waitlisted again! Ahh, I hope there are spots for transfers! Please let it be my time! I love UVA and will apply until I get in hehe!

This whole thread seems VERY bizarre to me. Obviously, UVA has a longstanding protocol in place. For them to breach this by emailing first and doing it to one student only is perplexing especially when Dean J has no knowledge of anyone being offered a spot from the waitlist. Is it possible that this student was actually admitted during RD? Maybe there was an oversight or delay in responding that perhaps necessitated the email?

Our D had SEVERAL waitlists last year (not UVA but Princeton, Dartmouth, UPenn, Brown, and Cornell), and I agree that emotions are SO heightened for these students. As soon as someone posts there is WL movement, anxiety shoots through the roof. I simply don’t want any students to go through that second wave of panic (first being initial round) unnecessarily.

Srh175…Congratulations on your acceptance; I hope you will be as satisfied at UVa as our D has been. :)

Both totalcynic and Shr175 are clearly ■■■■■ posts.
