it seems that they are taking the very kids off the waitlist that already have other offers that they are happy with (including ivy and ivy ranked schools) and yet ignoring the kids who did not get into iview who would normally have gotten into washu in a "regular" year. they seem to be getting a lot of turn downs from people on this board

Cowtipper1, take your name off the list. You might just save someone a couple extra days of waiting.

one thing I found really weird this year is that all the ppl who made an effort (for example, writing the letter/calling the admission committee) all haven't heard yet......The admission this year is really creepy...

Vodka, don’t believe in everything you read hear, remember my discussion with Sam Lee. They called just a few kids (at least two that said were called here, weren’t), and the wait list is still open since most of the kids have to decide by June 1st

The wait list at WashU is still open and will remain so until late June, certainly by June 30. They are moving slowly and deliberately. There are not many spots open. (That is also the case at MANY other universities.) Its stressful for everyone because kids are getting pressure to move on with their lives, even register for classes at the schools that have accepted them and they made their depost, while waiting on WashU to tell them if they are in or out. A lot of people will either drop off the wait list completely or will simply turn down an offer of admission....the later they notify, the fewer will accept. That is common sense.

I am sure WashU knows the anxiety level is high and they dont intend any of this to happen. But it is reality.

My suggestion is that people bond with their other school and not get too hung up on whether they get into WashU or not. If you are that determined to go to WashU (and impliedly that disillusioned with the school that has accepted you), then you can always reapply in the fall, now just 4 months away, as a transfer student. If you work hard at your other school and get top grades you will likely be admitted into WashU as a transfer student.

Some people at their local prestigious state school (UVa, Michigan, UNC-Chapel Hill, Berkeley, UCLA etc) will wait until the bitter end, if only for the advantage of instate tuition. That is perfectly understandable if finances are an integral part of one's decision process.

For other's they will wait on schools like WashU to the bitter end, for a variety of reasons...maybe their best friend got in and they want to go with them. Maybe the program is much better than where they were admitted.

We are hanging on for now. But we arent obsessed with it.

It is what it is. Best of luck to all of you.

friedokra, your post says that there are not many spots open. Did someone from admissions tell you this or are you just guessing?

I called admissions. They did not give me a number, but they said a few people had been admitted off the wait list and they are moving slowly and deliberately. They also said the list is still open and "thank you for your patience. Everyone will know where they stand by June 30."

Some schools tell you exactly how many are on their list and how many they admitted off the list. Some schools are very close chested about it. In the end, it sort of doesnt matter because it is what it is at WashU whether they say precisely or not how many are getting in off the list.

I am not saying that you wont get called (or even my D). I am only saying its better to move on with your choices and decide what you will do if WashU does call (decline their offer or drop your existing college and accept at WashU).

Its healthier that way for you anyway. If someone doesnt want to go through the waiting game any longer, they can always email WashU and say, "no thanks."

Finishing the wait list process by definition takes weeks and weeks. First they have to wait the one-two weeks they've given to people offered admittance off the wait list, then if they get a rejection, they then make another offer to someone on the waitlist. And so on and so on.

Then, there are those previously accepted students who are just now getting into their first choice school off another wait list and are informing WUStL they won't be attending... which opens another spot.

This could go on all summer but I guess at some point they just have to say stop.

A mom's opinion: I think Wash U is worth the wait!

VodkaS where are you from? I'm from Singapore and am still waiting. How do you know they haven't started using the international waitlist yet??

Hi Babycakes! I am from Canada....

Um...I called the international director of admission, and asked her if there is still any hopes for ppl on the international waitlist....and she said the will still take few weeks.....

But really....I don't see a lot of hopes now, my friends from my school all got waitlisted, and I doubt really little spaces will be offered....time to move on for me....

It seems that there hasn't been anyone new getting called and being accepted. Does anyone know if they have put all offers out and are now waiting to see the June 1 responses?

Sorry guys...I forgot to call back!!! I'll call back today to turn down the offer.

They are still accepting new info for your file so it could be a while before eveyone knows.

people are moving on with their lives....and bonding with their main squeeze schools. You know what I mean? WashU is an amazing place....but they arent the only game in town. Sure, some will leave their brides at the altar of academia and run out of the church to WashU. Fine. We are really on the edge of our patience level. And its not like we are registered at bucolic broccoli college of vegetable world. You know what I mean, Vern?

Hoping they come through, but not waiting by the phone any longer.

you really like your veggies dont u, friedokra

friedokra I'm the exact opposite. As time goes on I dislike my gauranteed college more and more and bond with WashU more and more. Perhaps, that isn't very healthy but thats me.

b4nnd20......well.....its a metaphor of sorts....though I do like vegetables...I am not a vegetarian. LOL. I just didnt want to "name" any particular school and be criticized for attacking anyone, so I made up a name.

Daniel, you are free to do as you please in this free country of ours. I am just saying that obsessing about ANY school is not healthy.

Youre right friedokra, the show must go on and once in college, you will love the place you got in forgetting all the bitter savors of the application process.

(Sorry...I hate okra :( )

You hate okra? Even if rolled in cornmeal and fried crispy on the outside and done just right on the inside, sittin next to a plate of 'cue? Ah come on.....its a local favorite here.....you don't know what you are missin. LOL.

As for "the WashU waitlist." I think we are at the end of the road. From what I can glean, June 1st is the last deadline for those offered a spot to accept or decline and if there are any additional spots available (which may well be in doubt) they will be making those calls....perhaps tomorrow, perhaps on Monday.

It is what it is.

If we get that call.....likely will accept. But we arent sitting around counting on it.
