Waitlist

I was just put on the wait list for cornell. AWWWWWWW. Anyway so I looked at last years data and out of about 1500 waitlisted students, 209 were accepted. It also said their waitlist is not ranked. If people are not ranked on the waitlist, then how do they decide who gets in. Also how does the waitlist work. Im assuming they let you know if you get in when they recieve all the decisions for accepted applicants. This would be around May1 so if I was admitted through the wait list, wouldnt it be too late because I already agreed to go to another college.

I have similar questions as I was waitlisted too.

I would think that if someone on the waitlist wants to go to Cornell, then he or she should make that perfectly clear by writing to them and maybe calling as well. I think admissions would want to hear that the waitlisted applicant would in fact go to Cornell if taken off of the waitlist. Also, send any additional information (new awards, etc.).

Same here, waitlisted.

"This would be around May1 so if I was admitted through the wait list, wouldnt it be too late because I already agreed to go to another college."

Even though you choose to remain on a waiting list, you have to choose another school and sent in the non-refundable deposit. If you change you mind, you can go to another school by the deposit won't be returned to you.

i was waitlisted also and i emailed my interviewer to see if he could do anything to help. does cornell have a run down of how many waitlisted kids there are and how many actually get in from each school? i applied to ILR so i figure there can't be too many on the actual wait list.

i got waitlisted at human ecology... since the acceptance rate was so low this year, the waitlist must be really large

If you got waitlisted for Cornell, did you get into any other ivys?

or were you waitlisted for other ivys as well?

rejected- penn and brown

Just found out I got into Berkeley engineering, at least some good news today. Still interested in Cornell's waitlist though. I heard that people get in off the waitlist based on how much they show interest in actually attending Cornell. There is no ranking on the waitlist.

write to Cornell explaining your interest in the school. You might want to include an updated resume or talk about some recent activities that you may have been involved in. Also, keep the grades up and perhaps try to score another recommendation from another teacher.

If ur waitlisted, the first thing to do is to notify the place that you still are keenly interested. Usually people are picked off the waiting list based on the amount of interest they show. So you can rest assured that if you actually visit Cornell...send a few love notes to the cornell adcoms u will be preffered. Also, here's where the big $$ comes in. People who can pay are more preferred usually. But if u won some VERY big award recently, MAIL THEM IMMDEIATELY...it'll make a bigdifference

anyone here on CC waitlisted to cornell in past years and got off the waitlist?

the statistics of past waitlist acceptances dont look so promising for us... but since they accepted only 21% this year, it may be possible there yield will be lower than expected and some of us will get bumped up.

we also need to remember that cornell's matriculation rate is pretty $h!tty with a lot of kids passing cornell for a lot of other ivies or other great schools (i have a number of friends who got into cornell but aren't going). plus, there are the kids with financial reasons to pass. yeah, the numbers are against us, but within the wait list, there are people who get into other schools of the same caliber or better and take those, people who just aren't interested anymore, or people who figure they can't pay anyway. that will take off quite a bit from the waitlist. so in all actuality, the numbers aren't that bad, but we still shouldn't get our hopes up.

How do you show Cornell that you dont need money from them?

Not apply for financial aid?

So the wait list is not need blind?

aminaest,
Ur best bet would be to send a mail to the adcom saying that Cornell is still your clear 1st choice and that u r willing to self-finance yourself. If u have been accepted at any other swell place...send a copy of the acceptance saying that despite this acceptance, Cornell's still ur dreamplace.

tun,
i'm not too sure about that.
These were somethings i read in an admission book for Ivy Leagues.

i dont know if its the best strategy to tell them that you can self-finance yourself... comes across as a little shady
