Anyone? Certain qualities in each applicant = waitlist/GT?

hey when do we hear by? i've read elsewhere that sometimes with the w/l you can be waiting into the summer... i dont get why if they get all the deposits in (after mailing time) around the second week of may

also, do they go to the waiting list more than once? that is, if say they decide to accept 100 ppl off the waitlist, and 50 of those ppl tell them no we wont goto cornell even though we're getting in off the waitlist, does cornell go back and do a second batch off the waitlist

come on can someone who was waitlisted and gotten in in previous years enlighten me

I generally think that you'll start hearing from mid May until mid June. I think it would be very extreme to hear in the summer.

And I was waitlisted too, this thread needs to be more active!!!! We need info guys! :D

i was also waitlisted (A&S)
so i emailed admissions and they said that the waitlist is need-blind
(people were saying that you have a better chance of getting off the waitlist if you do not need aid)

As you can see from the Stats below, the use of the Wait list varies considerably from year to year. Use of the Wait list this year will depend on the yield from regular admissions.

(** It looks like they forgot to clear the Wait List fields on the 2001 Common Data Set form, because it is highly unlikely that the numbers would be exactly the same as 2000. But that's what they posted on the web site.)

I think that this may be one of the years when Cornell accepts a relatively large number of students off the waitlist. Like 2005 or 2004. Two reasons:

1) Cornell admitted about 250 students more than planned last year. Oops. To avoid making that mistake again, Cornell has probably admitted fewer students this time, with the intent of relying on the waitlist if too few enroll.

2) The weather during Cornell Days this week was really lousy. Below freezing with snow showers. In April, for heaven's sake. Some people who visited may have taken one look at the weather and instantly decided to enroll at Duke or Rice or anyplace else that's warm instead of coming to Cornell.

Hey, I got waitlisted by Cornell but I got into other schools, and I am really unsure about where I want to go.

I was wondering, what if I somehow get picked from the waitlist after wooing the Cornell admission people with reccs, letters, etc but then I changed my mind to go to another school? Will there be some kind of penalty for this?

No there won't be any penalty. This year Cornell's yield rate may be higher because this year's HYPS admittance rate is a lot lower than other years. Those students that got rejected by those schools may end up going to Cornell.

Just because HYPS admittance rate was lower this year doesn't mean that their yield will be higher. It only really means that they got more applicants for the same number of spaces. The acceptance rate is a percentage of the number of students they admit of those that apply. Now if we knew that HYPS yeild was higher, then there would see a trickle down affect. But I haven't heard of any evidence of that yet. Have any of you?

I think this year's class size will be smaller than normal, probably less than 3000. They have to counterbalance the increased number of admitted students last year because the school has a limited carrying capacity.

the stated target class size is exactly 3050

I just got the call! I'm going to Cornell!!!

I got in! After all this time, I finally got in. I can't believe it.

Now let's just pray for a decent financial package.

My daughter just got the call from her college counselor. She needs reply by Mon. I think she's going. She's going to be in CAS.
