I was waitlisted and I have a lot of questions about it (I know some of these have been asked already, but I either don't remember them being answered or I don't remember what the answer was). So here I go:
1. How many people are on the waitlist?
2. How many people come off the waitlist? How many people came off the waitlist last year?
3. Can I update my admissions file (I recently won 2 awards)?
4. When is the latest that I would get off the waitlist?
5. Is there anyway that I can increase my chances of coming off the waitlist?
6. Do they look at second semester grades before taking people off the waitlist?

they waitlist at least 3000 people. last year 121 came off the waitlist. you should hear back by the end of may.

yeah, i'm waitlisted too... wash u goes crazy with the waitlist to make sure kids will go there and not to the ivies. i dont think i'll accept a spot though

Several of my friends, all with similar stats, were all waitlisted at my school. I think I was the only one accepted. I go to a pretty prestigious, public, residential high school (application only), so I was completely surprised/annoyed.

Their were definitely other candidates from my school that had Wash U as #1 choice (because of its proximity) with amazing stats. My legacy is what gave me that extra push...

Can I update my admissions file (I recently won 2 awards)?

Yes, do it. I did it three times before receiving my admissions letter (between Jan. 15 and March 9).

Is there anyway that I can increase my chances of coming off the waitlist?

My sister got waitlisted at Columbia med school. Here's what she did: She called, sent self-written journal articles, and just made sure the admissions knew she wanted to go to Columbia. They gave her a spot.

Do they look at second semester grades before taking people off the waitlist?

I don't know. I wouldn't take anything for granted.

my daughters counselor (she goes to a private school in st. louis) told me that there were a record number of applicants (22,000+) and that it is extremely unlikely that they are going to the wait list. I don't know how good this info is, but I assume that he is well connected.

i wouldn't get your hopes up too high.
the waiting list is extremely large for a school such as washu.

oldman, where does you daughter go to school? I went to John Burroughs in STL....

my daughter was wait listed. what does she need to do? are there huge amounts of kids on the wait list? i was told by another parent that wash u "does not" reject kids, not possible, right?

Everyone I know personally was waitlisted, not rejected.

washU rejects plenty of kids. they just have a huge waiting list. What I'm hearing here in st. louis, is that chances of coming off the waiting list this year are nil.

good to hear that everyone was not put on the wait list. bad to hear that chances of getting in off the wait list are slim
