soo i was waitlisted, and i am very, very, very disappointed.

i was just wondering... is there even a point in me getting my hopes up that i will be accepted off the waitlist? does anyone know anyone that was?

oh and if anyone else was waitlisted, what are your stats?

thanks....

i was waitlisted after being deferred ED. Man it hurst bad, but think of it this way. UVA is just a school, and a waitlist doesnt mean that you arent capable of succeeding. Although UVA is definatley in my heart, maybe it wasnt for undergrad. Med school perhaps? I dunno, but whatever it is, just remember that everything happens for a reason. Stats wise I had a 3.7UW and 2100 SAT score. Im prolly gonna enroll in BU, cuz they gave me 30,000k.

I was waitlisted OOS...I completely expected to be flat out rejected. Looking at everyone's stats on here, I wasn't sure how I could compete with most of the applicants. My SAT is respectable with an 1860, GPA is a 3.7 at a highly competitive school in the Dallas area. Right now I figure it's worth accepting a spot on the wait list, but what's the timetable for finding out and does anyone know the odds of getting in off of the wait list? Maybe some stats from previous years?..... Thanks for your input and Congrats to everyone who was accepted to this fine University.

i was waitlisted OOS.. i was hoping for acceptance. here are my stats.. 34 act, 2200 sat (740v, 670m, 790w), 730 writing sat 2, 700 math 1c sat 2, top 10% of grade (4.145 gpa), good extracurrics--tennis and comm service (girl scout gold award), supposedly great recs, i thought my essays were great, 4 on world history ap, eng lang ap, and us history ap, and i'm taking 4 ap classes sr. year. i'm dissapointed buti have so many other great schools to choose from so i'm fine.

In 2005 there were 3247 placed on waitlist. 1848 accepted a place on the waitlist. 83 were admitted.

So does anyone know of anyone that has successfully made it off the waitlist? Is there anything at all that you can do to improve your chances? Is UVA a school that doesn't want to be contacted with new achievements and such?

Do they have a set order they go by? If so, is there any way to find out roughly where you are in that order? Then I can at least get it out of my head if I'm 1000 or something out of 3000. If I happen to be top 50 or 60, then I know there is a good shot I'd get in.

those stats about last year's waitlist acceptees really worry me... i, too, was expecting rejection (OOS) and was stoked to have been placed on the waitlist, i think ill accept a position with VERY low expectations

What can we do to get OFF the waitlist?

im waitlisted in state. last year two girls who were waitlisted got off from my school, so we'll see, the outlook doesn't look promising though. Statistics do not seem to be in anyone's favor, especially since its not ranked. That worries me

so does UVA rank the waitlist??

Waitlisted from flipping instate

2110 SAT (710 m 700 v 700 w) 760 710 SAT II's
32 ACT
3.7 uw/3.77w GPA after 1st semester senior year
IB Diploma Candidate- (6 IB classes junior/senior years)

4 years varsity/jv baseball, recruited to play DIII
President of young republicans
School/Regional science fair awards
100's of volunteer hours for IB
all the usual honor societies

This really makes me angry...UVA is my state school and I did not get in despite my having a 3.77 GPA in the hardest courses one can take...I could have easily gotten a 3.9 if I would have only taken 3 IB courses like kids who got in did...and that is without even mentioning SAT scores, where I know for a fact that mine is hundreds of points higher than a number of those accepted.... I know the reason I didnt get in is becasue so many others were accepted from my school already (25+ early and about 30 more regular) but it is just so frustrating that I have taken these IB courses with one goal---that of getting into UVA---and now I am on the stupid waitlist. I just wish UVA would look at a candidate's complete package and not accept students solely based on their GPA, which they obviously do.
By the way I am looking at Wake Forest the most right now, with William and Mary and Haverford also up there (accepted to all three).
Sorry if my post sounds angry...its because I am irate....

I can understand your anger, but you weren't quite an auto admit. What was your rank? It sounds like you should have gotten in.

gggunit, i totally agree with you bro. It makes me wonder that I did all of this work for nothing. However, its weird cuz i havent seen any deferree getting rejected? It seems that most deferrees were waitlisted, which is so stupid. I mean yea UVA is my number 1 choice, and it still is but i wish they would just give a decision ya know. I hate this false hope ****.

We dont rank since our class is over 800 kids, but my counselor estimated me to be in the safely in the top 10%. It just so happened that literally almost all of the people above me applied to UVA, so I got the shaftjob. I think the fact that I applied early and was deferred might have in fact hurt me during the regular decision round. I thought my SAT scores, which from what I have seen would be competetive for an out of stater, would make up for the fact that I do not have a flawless transcript. But hey, it could be worse, I could have not gotten into schools on the same level as UVA (Wake, William and Mary and Haverford, in my opinion)

Bump, is the waitlist in a specific order? Is UVA one of those schools that wants you to send more recs, essays, grades, etc. when you are on the waitlist, or do you just do nothing?

This was my fourth waitlist so I'm used to this by now. Unfortunately UVA is the one school I really wanted to go to out of those. Somehow I just got accepted to ND though. Who gets waitlisted at UVA AND UNC, and then gets into Notre Dame.

It's very possible if you're out of state for UVA and UNC...

GGGunit do you go to robinson secondary school?

You poor kids in Fairfax County have it rough. There is definitely a bias against Northern Virginians at UVa AND W&M...
