Unfortuntately I was waitlisted at Williams. Does anyone have any insight into the Williams' waitlist process?

I got waitlisted too. From what they said in their letter, about 350-600 students are waitlisted each year, and they accept anyhting from zero to 50. Chances don't seem promising, but I guess it's similar to other schools: express continued interest, send them updates with new grades, awards, etc. and maybe you'll have a chance of getting in off the waitlist.

waitlisted...

I was waitlisted too. So, how should we approach trying to get off the waitlist?

can we know where we are placed in the waiting list?

No, Williams doesn't rank the list. They meet to re-review all the waitlistees in May.

OK, I have a quick question.
It says in the waitlist letter that they would like to know if you are accepting any other college admissions offers, so that if you are they can take you off the waitlist. But, it's obviously a wise idea to accept another college's acceptance offer, because otherwise you may not go to college next year. So....does this mean that you can only stay on the waitlist if you don't accept any other college acceptance offers?
Gosh, I really hope that made sense.

It sure doesn't, twyla. You should put a deposit down at the school you choose. If you get off the waitlist, and decide to go to Williams, you would have to give up the deposit at the other school.

Look carefully at your materials from that college, though. I think Haverford, at least, asks that you NOT send in a deposit if you are staying on a waitlist, but instead ask them for an extension past May 1.

I was told to send a deposit to the school and we would have to forfit it if we got off any waitlists. That seems to be the case. I am sure some schools are different. Call the admissions office(anonymously) at the school and ask their policy.

The customary practice is just to send in the deposit; you just need to be careful about the individual policy of the school. I'm trying to decide what to do about my waitlisting too ... good luck to all of you!

I got waitlisted at Amherst and Williams... how about bad luck

acceptance, I was waitlisted at Amherst, Williams, AND Haverford, and I know that some others were waitlisted at five or even six schools. I am just praying I get in at one of my three, but I know the odds are against it. Good luck to you!

If it is any consolation, I was waitlisted at six schools: Williams, Northwestern, Hopkins, Georgetown SFS, Davidson and Rice.

Acceptance, I was waitlisted at Amherst and Williams too ... my first and third choices, respectively. So frustrating. At least I was only waitlisted at too ... the suspense is unbearable.

Is Williams still need-blind to internationals on the wait-list?

I was also wondering about financial aid for the people who got waitlisted... My guess is that you don't get any financial aid if you get taken of the wiatlist.

Anyone have any experience with being waitlisted as an international. I mean there is so much red tape if you want to study in the USA. Is it realistic to get all the paper work done (visa, financial info) if you get take of the waitlist.

"my guess is that you don't get any financial aid if you get taken of the waitlist"

That would suck

I am guessing you're an international, from what country are you applying if that's not a secret?

well in 10 days we know..
