Waitlist

Hello,

How do waitlist for UC’s work? I got waitlisted at Davis and SD but was wondering if the earlier I submit my statement and reservation on the waitlist, the better chance I have?

Basically is it a “First come, first serve” type of deal or it doesn’t matter? Also, how much does the statement count lol because I don’t want to spend unnecessary time crafting it if they are not going to read it.

i was wondering the same thing (and i also got waitlisted at davis and sd). on their FAQ page, they said it doesnt mmatter. just submit the essay by april 15 (i think?), and they’ll choose the best candidates.

yeah i dont really want to write another essay either. idk how davis got so hard… i had a 2130 sat score a 3.75 UW gpa (which is like 4.0 or something UC gpa) and i got waitlisted at both…

@finallyfree Sorry bro. But I think your GPA is just slightly low. I think they emphasize GPA more than test scores, but that score is certainly impressive. Good luck if you are sticking to the waitlist! BUMP!

I think you should take care with the letter.

@AchieveLife‌ good luck to you too

Check the website “askmssun”. She addresses the issue of UC waitlists.

I would guess that those schools, like most, care about more than just SATs and GPA when accepting new students. Maybe you didn’t put enough effort into the other parts of your application?

@Lily1985 UC’s place a lot of emphasis on GPA. They’re usually a numbers game. Although the essay does matter. however, I did not ask why I got waitlisted lol, I’m asking is it a first come first serve basis and how important is the statement for the waitlist because I mean there’s roughly 3-5k waitlisted i would assume. Plus UC’s froze admissions due to some budgets according to some.

@Jenbo9 Thanks. Will look into it.

Yeah, GPA is huge at UC’s, I know. I think the letter you write will matter to them, if it is not just some run-of-the-mill letter. If you write something that makes them want to accept you, it will influence their decision.

What were you thinking of saying in your letter?
