Interesting that a cursory look through the boards seems to have no mention of this, but it looks like preliminary waitlist calls have indeed begun, as my friend just told me he got a call Monday (such a shame, too, he was originally going to Yale! Hopefully he'll stick with that, I like him :))! Huge congrats to anyone who got in but judging by the complete lack of mention on CC, I'm doubting many people got the call!

Admin office indicated they are accepting a "handful" and will be notifying them as soon as possible.

What's your friends concentration? any hook?

Did he send anything in?

He is a prospective science major and probably has some other varied good qualities...I met him in the airport travelling from Yale prefrosh to Caltech's, and he was doing the same, so he obviously had both a premier choice in liberal arts Ivies and in sci/tech schools. I don't think he ent anything in but I'll ask next time I talk to him.

He must have at least sent a letter in. The alumnus I worked with told me they ignore you if you don't.

email(s) should work as well...doesn't have to be just a letter (I am assuming..right?)

Hmm, I have never heard that. To those in the know (perhaps Byerly), is this true?

I have always recommended the belt and suspenders approach.

Belt and suspenders, meaning...?

using all practical methods to press toward a desired result,.. or else he is suggesting you 'keep your pants on' which would quite often engender the opposite action,..

Byerly amuses me. :)

So GMan, did you decline the Havard waitlist? You seem pretty set on Yale now.

GuitarManARS, let us know what your friend decides.

bandit, I like to keep my options open.

By the way, my friend said he did send in a letter, updating on all his activities since December--I'm assuming he meant he sent it after March 30th, given the way I worded the question.

GuitarManARS,

So what you implying is that if one did not receive the "preliminary" call that automatically means that his/her chances are gone? Is this official or merely another form of inciting fear and anxiety within the participants of this forum?

ArtofMedicine,

GuitarmanARS is implying nothing of the sort. What he is implying is that if you did not receive the preliminary call, that means you did not get in on the FIRST ROUND. Now, if you received a letter telling you that you were no longer being retained on the waiting list, as Byerly likes to say, THAT would mean your chances were gone. Otherwise, you're still clear for round 2.

Although it's 95% likely that there's only one round. Meaning no one here got in.

It's 90% likely that you won't get into Harvard at all. Not much better odds, yet for some reason we all applied.

ArtofMedicine, not in the slightest. Unless all the people they called accept, I would imagine more calls will follow.

Thank you, GuitarmanARS. It's refreshing to see that I'm not the only one looking on the bright side of life.
