you are also forgetting the possibility that they did not call people who made their intent to accept an offer from the waitlist clear via a letter of intent or some communication with the admissions office. in that case they might deem it unnecessary to call to feel out the applicants interest in the school and it might still be possible to receive an acceptance in "waitlist round 1" despite not having received a call.

Canaday, it's good to hear that too :) Where, if I may ask, did you decide upon?

I decided on Wesleyan University in Connecticut.

Excellent! I have a friend who's going there, very smart girl, seems like a really nice place. Middle-Connecticut pride? ;)

You're damned right Middle-Connecticut Pride (screw California).

That is, unless Harvard accepts me, in which case GO TAXACHUSETTS...I mean...Massachusetts.

You mean GO RED SOX! Fitzsimmons is a big Sox fan.

Well, as a Mets fan I would hope he can at least empathize through mutual Yankee dislike :)

We may not have to if I go to Wesleyan, and if I go to Harvard, well...we can empathize by beating up on the Yankees and on Princeton.

hey! there was no need to drag california (and by implication, the world's greatest city of San Francisco) into this!

california OWNS the US

hey guys
do you know if they call u and u dont answer,
would they just call the next waitlistee and not give you a spot?
my parents speak no english, and they said they got a call from an american lady (i doubt it but it could be harvard).

and... if i dont receive a call, does that mean im not in?
this waitlist thing is such a drag, yet i want in so badly.

else, im going to uc berkeley, which is a good engineering school but i heard a lot of freaky things about it.

thanks.

Is that the state where Arnold is the Calif?

Klee:

Call Harvard and ask if it called your home and explain that your parents speak no English and they did not know who called, so you are trying to check since you are on the WL.

@klee

yo dude, im in a similar situation. can you tell me what the office told u when you called them?

Klee: What's up ? If i were u, i would call the office right now and find out. BTW, Are you planning to major in engineering? Then, go to Berkeley dude!

hey guys
as soon as i came back from school i called
the lady i talked to said it probably wasnt them.
and they'd be sending out letters in a couple of days to let all the waitlistees know. so hereiam, we should be getting their responses soon. sigh. scary feeling.

i was wondering, since some of you said u got calls, does that mean im prolly not pulled off the list?

and Rabban, yeah im into engineering, but if im gonna go to harvard, im prolly gonna change my major.
im really opened to anything... except history and poli sci perhaps. haha

send out letters about what?

that we got kicked out of the waitlist or got in from waitlist?

im guessing both.

The best advice I've ever received, in matters like this, is to have zero expectations.

Psychologists know that happiness and fulfilment is to a large extent the difference between what you expect and what you actually get. So to that effect, I don't think it wise to be so hyped up about such a thing as getting off the Harvard waiting list, because one would spend so much effort and thought on the very narrow chance of success that when the rejection letter does arrive, as it will for 99% of the people here, one would be totally devastated. And this is silly, beause really, almost no one can expect to get off the waiting list.

That's why I suggest that everyone do not try to get his or her hopes up too far, and instead spend more time appreciating and getting to love the school he or she is going, which shouldn't be too difficult because all of us are going to otherwise very, very good schools.

And don't get me wrong, I am not against hope. Hope is definitely a very powerful thing to possess, but ONLY when it is in your hands. Whether or not you get off the Harvard waiting list is definitely not in your hands. When this is the case, hope can lead to very unfeasible expectations, which for most will inevitably not be met. You will be very severely disappointed when this happens, and that's why I don't feel it wise to be so fixated on the very slim chance of getting off the Harvard waiting list.

Byerly's on got in off waitlist.
