Does Harvard keep a waitlist?

Not sure, but I think they do.

Yes, they do.

The number of people admitted from the waitlist varies from year to year (depending on their yield). I believe last year it was only about five students, but often they admit more from it.

Hm, but how does it work? They'll only know how many extra people to admit after May 1st, but by that time those waitlisted would probably have replied to another college already..

Admiral: It was 13-14 last year.

IntlCher: Waitlists work at Harvard just like any other college's waitlist. If you get a notification from a WL school that you were accepted, then you can choose whether to attend or not. This is usually called the "summer melt," in which students who choose to attend one school end up going to another due to movement on the waitlist in their favor. Harvard, however, is not affected by this too much, due in part to our extremely high yield rate.

IntlCher- students lose the deposit they sent to the other school if they get in off a waitlist. (At some schools, this isn't a big deal- Harvard doesn't even have any deposit at all. At others, it could cost a hundred dollars or more).

Ah ok thx to both of you :)
