waitlist?

If you really want to go, send a letter stating that you would definitely attend if accepted, and tell them WHY it is your first choice - programs, research, whatever the main reasons are. In addition,
sending information about awards, community sevice highlights, special projects, senior transcript, AP scores, would be appropriate.

While remaining detached and shifting your main focus on other schools who have accepted you, woo the school and consider it as a 'live opportunity.' If no result, then it's time to "love the one you're with."

Also wait listed....

It would be interesting to know how many students were waitlisted last year vs. how many that actually got it.

i have a feeling they wait list a lot of people; well i mean it obviously seems that way since so many of you got waitlisted, but last year 3 people in my grade applied. one pulled his app out when he got into u. michigan, one got in ED, and one was waitlisted RD.
you should find out how many people are accepted off the waitlist and definitely do everything yulsie suggested. and talk to your college counselor; a lot of times theyll make calls and try to get you in also.

I don't think anyone got off the waitlist last year, sad to say.

A father with a book concerning waitlisting has the 2003 waitlist stats for all schools.

Waitlist:500
Accept off of waitlist: 70

this shows interest is important and it DOES make sense they want people who will be dedicated to their shcool

Those waitlist stats are not from last year. I would be interested to know how many people got off the waitlist last year. I am pretty sure Emory overenrolled and then did not accept anyone off the waitlist.

I already made it clear that they WERN'T from last year, hotshot.

well since emory overenrolled last year, i imagine this year they went overboard not accepting as many people. thus, hopefully for all of you, more people will be admitted from the waitlist.

Yeah guys Emory was definitely big on campus visits. I visited and applied with a 1310 SAT, 720,700,640 sat ii's, and a 3.8UW gpa. I was surprised to get at least the waitlist, cause I wasn't expecting to be admitted, since it was a reach.
Since there's a very slim chance of me being admitted, I'm gonna send a letter and hope that it boosts my interest in attending the school.

in conclusion....emory = huge on interest

i was waitlisted i'm so shocked + sad
sat: 1400 (m 760 v 640)
800/720/720
gpa:3.7 uw
strong ec : played an instrument for 10 yrs many awards
no campus visit
i don't know if i'm staying on the wait list
i don't wanna go there nemore

waitlisted and surprised i even made waiting list.
SAT I: 1370
GPA: 3.5 (uw) 4.3 (w)
lots of extra curriculars, volunteer work, summer internship.

i made a campus visit so i suppose that's why i even made waiting list. i would def. consider going if i recieve a letter before May 1st, but that is highly unlikely.

I don't think it's possible for Emory to send out letters before may 1st, is it?

*Stain99-- who is Dan Walls???

dean of admissions

ME TOO! Seige-- the same thing happened to me. 3.9, 1460, counselor warned me ahead of time that visiting is important, didn't listen, now kicking myself--waitlisted. Someone else from my school with significantly lower stats/ec's was accepted, but visited. Personally, I think that's an unfair way to judge interest in a school. Not everyone can afford to fly across the country to look at every school they apply to.

Nat, you could have ordered a CD. That's what I did.

I'm pretty confused about this interest perception. I’ve got a 1450, 3.9 GPA and was accepted. I didn't contact them at all, in fact i wasn't going to apply but i was on the common app. site and stuck Emory onto the list to submit since the deadline hadn't passed. Then I forgot to send them any of my other app info, like teacher recs. and transcripts and all that stuff until like mid march. I guess they just really liked me.......I wrote good stuff about Emory in my app. and had really good essays, teacher recs and amazing extra curriculars, but no previous interest in Emory. I think this whole thing gets too much attention.

thats annoying that you just "stuck Emory onto the list"...that means youre taking the place of some people who might be dying to get into emory...
