How about going back for a second visit during the waiting time? Would that be smart or would it be deemed getting in the way or too pushy?

I can think of no good reason for going back. What would be the point?

A college rep from another school once told us a story about a kid who returned to visit that school after being waitlisted and the college found it impressive that he was that dedicated to attending.

So it's May 1st today. I wonder if anyone knows anything about the waitlist situation...

Nothing yet. Do you know anyone else in your area who was waitlisted?
I can't find anything on Oberlin's website about it, either. Some schools apparently have info about how they handle the waitlist on their sites.

Accepted students had until 5/1 to mail back their deposits. Those won't be received until next week, and it will take awhile to process them. I wouldn't expect a decision about whether they will go to the waitlist for awhile.

i just want to know!!! this waiting thing is killing me!!

though I would be happy to wait 3 more months if the news is good.

NudderBudder, hang in there! I hope you put a deposit down elsewhere and that in the interim you can get excited about that possibility, too.

is Oberlin's waitlist active this year? i am sure there are alot of ppl wondering the same question.

All of the action on the other waitlist threads is making this wait sooo hard.

my friend just got off the waitlist yesterday so I believe that they are starting to notify people. Good luck!

I haven't heard anything beyond this one post. Anyone else know what is up?

me neither. anyone else?

My D's GC called and spoke with the AO from our area yesterday. The message relayed to me is that they are still working through acceptances, and HAVE NOT started calling people off the waitlist.

Quilla- thanks for posting this! It seemed like one of the few colleges where there has been simply no news.

I'm glad to hear they haven't started calling people yet.

I promise this isn't a hoax. My friend was called last weekend (on friday actually) and offered a spot from the waitlist. They said that she had until monday to decide, and she chose to enroll. Perhaps they're starting very slowly- I also believe her high school has a very good relationship with Oberlin so perhaps she got called before most other people. Good luck all!

According to an article in this morning's Cleveland Plain Dealer, Oberlin has not yet gone to its waitlist.
Colleges in limbo as applicants wait to hear from Ivy League- cleveland.com

dave, thank you for this link. Helps to know a bit more about the situation.

I am playing field hockey at Oberlin next year so I am on the team's mail list, and the coach just confirmed that one girl who planned on playing had just been admitted from the waitlist and was coming. It sounds faraway but the coach/team have been in constant contact, and they included her name/email. So it seems pretty safe to say the waitlist's active. Good luck to all of you!
