Dartmouth will wait-list 1,500, up 15 percent. The increases are roughly in line with the rise in the number of applications.

this is from an article from featured discussions. deferred then waitlisted?
not fun!

if i had to guess my own fate that's what i'm saying, and not looking forward to it.

i can already picture the thread......deferred then waitlisted, what can we do?

haha that would be sooo much funnier if i knew it wasn't true. i'm already trying to decide if waiting it out on the list will be worth it or not

i'm staying on the waitlist till they say..........please leave us alone. i have a feeling i will be on a couple waitlists. it's really just a way to say, we like you but no. that's how i will look at it. and then if i get a big suprise, yipeeeee

deferred then waitlisted could possibly be worse than being rejected. i make wishes at 11:11 and have been making the same wish for the past like..6 months. hopefully it comes true!

Should Dartmouth waitlist 1500 students it would be ~ 109 more than last year. Laskaris has previously gone on record that Dartmouth will accept a smaller class. Given the fact that 2011 is overenrolled, situation with on-campus housing this year and the announcement that some seniors (who get 1st pick in room draw) may have to move off campus, along with the fact that freshmen & sophomore are guaranteed housing and I think they are really going to be careful with the numbers and enrollment management.

Last year was overfilled, remember?

ahhhhhhhh 0 last year? :( :(
hopefully im a deferred -> accepted story! :O

If you're waitlisted I don't think you have much hope (not to be a bummer, but that's just the case). We have an incredibly huge applicant pool this year, our previous class was oversubscribed, and there's a very annoying housing crunch coming down the pipeline. Unless an unusually low number of admitteds decide to attend, I don't really see how we'll take anyone off the waitlist.

i was on 6 waitlists last year...
word from the wise: if you're on a waitlist at dartmouth, you're probably into another good school where you will be equally happy. if you have ONE option that you're happy with, take it and move forward. in retrospect, waiting it out until july was not worth it for me. i was very stressed out through the end of senior year and missed out on a lot of fun stuff that most of my friends took part in (you can't indulge in the senior slump, as your final transcript is reviewed if you're accepted off the waitlist). MOVE ON, RELAX, ENJOY THE REST OF SENIOR YEAR.

ps: getting accepted off of that waitlist does not mean you will be happy. in april, i was accepted to two top 15 schools, but decided to sit it out for the waitlists at the other 6 schools. i got off 1 of the 6 waitlists, forfeited a deposit, and i'm at this school and i don't like it here, so i'm attempting to transfer out!

Waitlist is an absolutely terrible idea... I just got waitlisted at a school I was only semi-seriously considering, and now I kinda wish I was flat out rejected... If I get into Dartmouth Monday though that would do a LOT to straighten things out!

^ amen to that! i am hoping for a similar outcome

I’ve been waitlisted at Dartmouth and WUSTL, and have heard some rumors - do colleges really not reserve any finaid for those accepted off the waitlist?

That actually depends on the school…I actually think Dartmouth might, but don’t quote me on that unless someone else confirms.
