Waitlist

I am international too... no interest shown for me yet... :( and I assure everyone I am the most anxious of all to go to Amherst(:P)....

I will call them today, see what I can do... what is the name of the person responsible for international applicants?

skunk where are you from?

Nepal, ever heard of this country?:D

Haha, thank you, ami, I look forward to meeting you too!

I don't think you've read some of my older posts, though...
Let's just say I loved to cause trouble on the Ivy League forums :)

I communicated exclusively with my regional director, and he with my guidance counselor, so I'm a special case. I found out through her, and he e-mailed me Friday morning to confirm. So, no call for me, I guess.

And, to everyone else still waiting, know that students admitted to Amherst are often cross-admits to Harvard, Princeton, Yale, etc. Harvard plans on admitting 150-175+ off its waitlist, Yale 45+, Princeton 90+, so Amherst may "lose" a few of its students in time. There's still hope yet, even if you aren't part of Amherst's "25."

my cousin got off the waitlist earlier this week, and she will probably accept the offer.

she comes from new york city.

good luck to the rest of you still waiting!

I ask again. Skunk you might be able to help.

Who is the person responsible for international applicants from the Amherst Admission office? please answer...

I'm not really sue. Nancy Ratner was the one who contacted me. She might be the one.

Have they finished calling the students they wish to take off the waitlist? Also, is the person who picks up the phone in the admissions office one of the admissions officers or a receptionist?

I'm a waitlistee too...
Full of question, well, when I called they wired me through to another person....I'd assume that it's a receptionist.

It is definitely the receptionist... You can't expect an officer to sit and attend phone calls all day.... but of course she knows..

thanks skunk.... I will see about this, cuz up till this time I have no one person at Amherst that I am in contact with, cuz the Receptionist wires me off to someone different every time, even though I ask her to put on the person responsible for international wait list applicants....

any way, congrats to skunk for his admission... hopefully I will get in, and we will meet up...

Does anyone know how to find the regional director?

I spoke to an admissions counselor at Amherst today about my waitlist. She said that they had already made a lot of offers, and didn't know if they'd be extending any more at all. They were apparently waiting on those that they had already taken off the waitlist. She didn't sound too optimistic at all.

don't tell me it was some Katherine... I talked to her, and all she replied to my about 10+ questions was that she couldn't say or that she didn't know... but they will have to take more, once 20 or 25 of their class run off to HYP.... they can't escape that, can they??? :P

dang, that sucks, that they're not going to take any more. They don't rank the wait list, do they? Do they actually review all of the applications when they select students off the waitlist?

come on guys, don't tell me you actually believe that they don't rank the waitlist. they might not be assigning each guy a number (the fit is important as well), but there are definitely tiers and gradations within their expected 900 out of the 1400 waitlists they issued. otherwise the workload would induce total anarchy

My son is also on the list - this is how I see it. They probably do rank and they also have different stacks of apps based on various criteria: gender, race, region of country, foreign, athlete, etc and all permutations of these. When a student drops off the admit list, they are replaced with a "similar" student from the waitlist based on the criteria mentioned above. They have taken 20 so far...okay so let's wait to see how this unfolds between now and July or August. Just wrap your mind around the school you have sent your deposit to and if Amherst calls in August your in! If not, you're also in at your other school.

exactly drdom!

for getting off the waitlist, you need someone like you to drop out first ;)

tealover - have you heard from any of the schools you are waitlisted at?

I only stayed on waitlist for Amherst and columbia, and I am on extended for columbia

I can't understand why anyone would turn down Amherst for Columbia...
maybe because I've been living in the City all my life :)
