Waitlist

I am also waitlised at Amherst, living in Vietnam made communication with the admission office so so so difficult :((.

I absolutely agree... i have not been able to cultivate one person as my contact in the admission office. I am pipped to a different person every time... maybe, email will work...

nothing left to do now but sit and wait. This is an unusual year for most elite schools - lower acceptance rates, large waitlists and record applicants. Just don't take it personally - its all demographics, all numbers. Undergraduate education for most of you will not be the last school you attend. There will be graduate or professional schools and that is probably more important in the long run. If you hate where you end up as an undergrad, you can transfer - almost 50% of students in the US don't graduate from the same school they entered as freshman. If you are an international student, then broaden your search within the US - there are many fine schools without the big brand name that will give you an excellent preparation for further study. Perhaps try the UK.

I am also waitlisted at Amherst, but it is a shame I still receive nothing from the admission office.
I am still waiting and hoping . . . .
But the pressure of the National High School Graduation Examination is killing me. (This is one of the most important exams for Vietnamese students. 6 subjects: Vietnamese literature, Mathematics, English, Physics, History, Biology. What a recipe for a nervous breakdown!"

I think i've lost hope. :(

Don't lose hope!
Does anyone have any updates?

Nothing new for my son. I really think this is going at least util the end of June. That was the time frame mentioned in the original waitlist letter that my son received. I suspect this could actually go even longer!

The Amherst Class of 2012 has had plenty of new additions from the waitlist. I don't think the waitlist has been closed as yet. Best of luck to all of you!!

ya... I got an email reply yesterday that they might still go to the wait list... so lets all wait and pray...

And good luck to you skunk... and congrats on the ousting of the King... :P

Thanks. He wasn't much good anyway.:D The only problem being that we might just get another dictator instead.:(

Hic, I am still waiting for the result of Amherst.
I admit I would be very very sad if I am not accepted since Amherst really is my first choice college.
However, like my parents say, now my fate is in the hand of other people, so all I can do is continue waiting and hoping . . . . .
Good luck to all waitlisted applicants, esp. international applicants like me.

themoonofdeath, I am international too and I think for us mainly it is not just admission, but also financial aid (I don't know if you applied). But Amherst at this pt is still not need-blind for internationals, so the funds might be used up and you might be waiting for money rather than a spot

hmmm... since they are now switching need-blind internationals, it means that they have lots and lots of money, even to finance current year wait listees... so I don't think finances matter now.. only luck and quality...

I share the thoughts of insaneabd. Still, this waiting process is killing millions of my neural cells.

I have just received the news. I have been accepted from the waitlist. OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!

CONGRATS!! Welcome to the Amherst Class of 2012!!:D;)

congrats man.. excellent work...

themoonofdeath - well congratulations. I hope my son will also hear soon. Can you tell me if Amherst is giving financial aid this year to foreign students?

where are you from?

I am from Vietnam. And updated news: I just received the financial aid package from Amherst and apparently my family contribution is only 2.6% the total estimated budget. The rest is my financial aid award.
THIS IS REALLY WONDERFUL. I just replied to Amherst saying that I definitely will enrol. Good luck to all other waitlisted applicants.
