Waitlist

I know the waitlist paper said they would let us know about the STATUS of the waitlist by june 15, but has anyone heard anything yet? They also say you will be notified of admission before August 1st, but that seems so late.

Any current W&M students that have gone through the process or other waitlisters that have information? It would be appreciated.

The waitlist thing is a trickle down process. William & Mary would probably be in the third wave -- first the Ivies, then the other top-tier privates, then the group that includes W&M. It will go on all spring and summer.

Be positive and be prepared for either outcome - going to your second choice to which you have already sent in your deposit or getting the call for W&M. I met my wife at W&M (both Class of '83) and she was a community college transfer sophomore year. She was waitlisted and had already put in a deposit and was ready to attend Virginia Tech and got the call for W&M in mid-August. Another friend of mine had actully already reported to her other school but classes had not begun yet when she got the call and she was on a plane to Virginia the next day.

Good luck!

With W&M you have the OOS & IS thing going. There is a hard limit on OOS students, per VA legislature. It depends upon where the openings are. The same is true with respect to men and women, although there are no hard limits that I know of.

My IS son just sent W&M a note saying he is no longer interested in remaining on the waitlist.

Thanks for the information. I had no idea that the colleges tooks kids off the waitlists in waves. Guess I'll have to wait a bit longer.

The reason they do it in waves is simply because of the way the admissions process works. When kids go from the likes of Georgetown, Wash U, Cornell, etc. to the spots open at HPYS, the kids from W&M, UVA, UNC, etc. take the new spots at GTown, Wash U, etc, then the spots open at W&M.

Waitlist is active. D got a call from the head of admissions this afternoon and offered a place. She's OOS and female....the group with lowest acceptance rate.
