I was waitlisted at University of Delaware and was wondering if anyone knows the percentage of applicants that are typically accepted through the waitlist? Please comment.

On collegedata.com they are reporting that last year UDEL offered 3577 candidates a spot on the waitlist. 1601 accepted to remain on the waitlist and they ultimately offered a spot in the freshman class to 138 of the 1601. Not too promising unfortunately. If it's really your first choice let them know, but you should have something else in place that you can live with. Good luck

About those wait list figures. I wonder how many of the 138 kids actually accepted a spot at Delaware. Or are the figures misleading, meaning that 138 kids were admitted to the class and accepted (when in reality more may have been been taken off the wait list). Or are they offering 138 kids admission, figuring maybe only about 50% would accept. It would seem to me offering only 138 kids an offer from a waitlist, wouldnt yield such a large % of admits. I wish I really knew how to read these numbers. I'm sure they are all written in such a way to make the schools seem more selective than they are.

Is there anything specific I can do to increase my chances at being accepted from the waitlist at uDel?

Lowermorelandmom: You're right. I guess they can make stats say anything they want. It sounds like they admitted 138, so maybe they did offer admission to more This is the exact information listed on the collegedata.com website, so I guess you can make any inferences that you want:

Bov30 - I am waitlisted at my number one school also. Along with the form I had to send in letting them know I wanted to stay on the waitlist, I sent a letter letting them know I would absolutely accept admission from the waitlist. I also sent in 2 additional recommendations. I chose 2 teachers/advisors that could speak more about my leadership skills rather than academic ability . I sent in my 3rd quarter grades which were good (thankfully). I hoped that would address any academic questions they had, so I wanted to focus on the leadership, teamplayer thing more.

I guess the trick to getting off the waitlist is to find a way to stand out from the other people on it. Everyone probably has similar credentials, (otherwise they would have either been accepted or rejected initially), so you need to find the hook that will make you stand out. Be sure they know that you will accept, if that is in fact the case, and then just try and be positive. Look forward to attending your 2nd or 3rd choice (or whichever) school and if you get into UDel you will be thrilled. Life will go on no matter where you are in September. You can always apply for a transfer, and who knows, you may love where you end up - even if it isn't UDel.

GOOD LUCK TO US ALL!

Has anyone heard from the waitlist?

No, I have not heard either. I would expect my the end of the week that letters would start to go out.

What r ur stats rose?

My stats are:
Sat - 1150
GPA - 92 unweighted
4 AP's and numerous honor classes
National Honor Society
Volunteer work and 2 years at the same part-time job

Anybody hear anything yet about the waitlist??

Yes, I got off the waitlist. I just received an email from them.

Congrats Rose! What state r u from?

I am from New York (Westchester county).

i hope i get in.

I would suggest that you get in contact with them to check the status of your application. Good luck.

Did anyone else hear yet besides Rose144?? Rose144, did you get a offer packet in the mail?

I got an email and a package in the mail. In order to get off the waitlist I sent an additional recommendation and a letter to the Dean of Admissions in addition to an email to an Admissions counselor.
My mom also called and spoke to an Asst. Director of Admissions who helped us out.
I guess we got a little agressive since I so deperately wanted to attend UDEL.

My friend got waitlisted to Udel also. He got in and is going to go to Udel. So I guess he got lucky...he wouldve ended up at Syracuse otherwise
