In case anybody is interested, if you visit that other board (that I shan't name) there was an acceptee off the list from VA...hopefully there will be more to follow soon!

Hmm... good luck everyone!

I can't find it! That's a good sign, though, right if they're already taking people off?

JamesCarville, which other board are you referring to?

i dunno if i want to believe him or not...because the Harvard lady told me yesterday that they wouldn't know about the waitlist for another few days but I'm glad to hear they are taking kids off the list (if he's telling the truth)...hmmm, it just seems to soon to me

They usually will admit people off the waitlist though, right?

Usually, yes.

I'd be surprised if there aren't at least 35 taken off the waitlist - and maybe 50-60.

You mean, eventually, or by now?

The other board...I can't post it here or else I'll supposedly get banned (if that's a hint). The poster there in question was from VA, though. My English Teacher, a Harvard Alum, was very curious about it, and said it may have been fabricated. I am as interested as all of you are, as I am also on the waitlist.

Here's the post if you're interested...

(*note to mods: I looked through TOS, and I didn't see anything saying you can't copy/paste from another discussion...if what I'm doing violates the TOS, please do not ban me!)

Topic: phone call from Harvard today

I'm off the waitlist, completely speechless. white F, 1580 (780v, 800m), 3rd in class of around 500, top public high schl, biomed research at local college, name on published paper. got the call today.

I'd believe her, except what harvard told me yesterday is making me a bit suspicious. And her accomplishments don't seem so unique that Harvard would pounce on her the day after the deposits were due. Who knows though...I don't see why she'd lie...

argh, I feel so pathetic paying such close attn to waitlist/yield news -- I really want to forget about my waitlisted colleges (so that it'd be a nice surprise if I do get in), but I can't. I suppose it's just that I was an all-around Ivy reject/waitlistee, and I'm clinging to my dreams...ugh...i think it'll do me good when i finally get rejected from my colleges so that i can finally let go.

Eventually.

Which means before the end of June

Thank you kind sir!

35 is a huge number for waitlists, and 50-60, well, that gets my hopes too high up

does harvard offer guaranteed transfer status? just wonderin, cuz cornell seems to have it...

phantom - we had deposits due?? i thought we just had to send in our cards..... (im a harvard admit)

um...ok, maybe not (the suppose the lady said "we didn't get the replies until only yesterday" and I assumed deposits...ok sorry for the confusion)

phantom - haha thanks. u scared me with the deposits.

Phantom:

Actually I would disagree with you- it is hardly possible that Harvard has already begun reviewing wait-listed candidates. You should consider that there are many international students whose enrollment decisions (if they were sent by mail) have probably not been received yet. And wouldn't it be illogical to start going to the wait-list if you didn't know for sure that there were not enough students who decided to enroll? This simply doesn't make any sense.

However, a possible (but rather unlikely) explanation could be that the girl's father is an important financial donator to Harvard, making her a "special interest case". This could explain why she was admitted.

In spite of this, I think that she doesn't tell the truth- for whatever reason.
