Waitlist

Have you waitlisters given up? I haven't heard anything in awhile.

Didn’t you get an email asking you if you still wanted to stay on?
At this point… I don’t think any of us have a realistic chance anymore.

yeah i did.
yeah i agree, but i know someone who got off on the 27th last year.

^Ill interpret that as a good sign. Anyone else hear anything?

No, I just called them today and they said that the waitlist is still active. I bet chances are not great but I am willing to wait. There’s not anything else left other than to wait.

Is Emory going to be issuing decision letters today?

^Unlikely. June 1 was the initial deadline and it was the same for the rest of the schools I was waitlisted at. Now, however, they say its going to take from mid to late June and I assume thats what Emory has in mind too. This is getting unbearable.

^ Did your other schools notify you and let you know it was going to take longer?

^ Yes, For example University of Pennsylvania said that its waitlist info would be coming from “mid to late June.” I think Duke told me something similar.

This is horrible lol

Here’s some stats on Emory’s previous use of the Wait List

Good Luck :)

Bet you dollars to doughnuts that this year’s waitlist acceptances are considerably higher than in the previous few years…

Hey everybody I know everyone is wondering about a response from Emory regarding the wait list. I actually got off the wait list on May 9th. I have a 1350 (Math-660, English-690) and a 90+ avg. I spoke to someone else who got wait listed by Emory and she got off it as well. Ironically she wasnt accepted to Yale with legacy from both parents and her sister.

With the influx of Emory actually going to the waitlist, does this mean less people want to go to Emory, or is it because of the economy/large amount of graduating seniors across the country?

Just curious.

^^^No, just because there was an upward trend of waitlist acceptances in recent years does not mean they are going to admit more students this year. Other schools had similar watlist acceptance patters and thats what I was hoping for. The problem is that they were pretty well prepared for the economic crisis and apparently accepted more students and the yield remained roughly the same (at least thats how it was in case of Columbia University). There are schools that accepted more than 100 students last year but 0 so far this year. I think people placed too much hope on the yield going down. Schools like Emory guarantee 100% fin. aid. need to be met. That means that if you are poor enough turning down acceptance because of monetary reasons is unlikely. Yet if you are wealthy enough that you would not need financial assistance in the first instance, then its not likely that recession affected you that much. So, im not hoping for miracles. I hope they tell us soon whats going on. One of the letters before said that on June 1 we can automatically assume the process is over, but now I have been getting some mixed information from Emory as well as other schools that hoped to get done by June 1.

Y’all gotta remember that Harvard and Princeton (and to a certain extent), UVa changed the landscape last year when they dropped early admissions. Thus, they had literally no idea on how to forecast yield (well, H has a pretty good idea). But in any event, all three were conservative in their March 31 announcements, but planned to use the WL a lot, and they did; indeed, I think Harvard took over 100 off of its WL. This created a trickle down to every college lower in the food chain. This year of course, H & P had a year’s experience, so they admitted more in RD and took fewer off of their WL’s (which means less WL trickle down).

You might want to read my suggestions on the other Emory waitlist thread. (I got in off WL)

EmoryGirl, can you tell us when you were taken off the waitlist?

Late June, I think.

Wow, the wait list is still going on. I feel bad for you guys having to wait up until now to know which college you’re going to attend. I’m lucky to have been taken off the wait list early. At least the wait from being accepted to the time when you actually attend the school isn’t as long. I can’t wait to go to college. Good luck to those still waiting.
