Hey, at least the WL is better than rejection. And the letter did imply that we were “qualified” :)

My daughter was waitlisted and then got in so it’s not hopeless! You need to contact them and convince them that this is where you belong and that you will definitely attend should you be admitted. You also need to send supporting material if appropriate.

And if you don’t get in, it’s okay, there are at least 50 great schools for each kid.

Good luck!

^ That was a comforting post. What do you mean by sending supporting material if appropriate?

Funny how some things are… I got denied by University of Chicago but got accepted by Northwestern. Some of you got waitlisted by both. Don’t get discouraged, there are some factors that you have no control over like whoever happens to be reading over your app. that day and how they feel, etc.

I would love to go to Northwestern, though I got a really good scholarship to a school in my state (OH) and I don’t know if I can pass it up. I hope my spot goes to one of you if I can’t take it. :)

Good luck!!!

For my regular decision apps: 3/3 Waitlisted
LOL.

Thanks for the comforting remarks everyone. I sent a few important additional things (I was chosen for an All-Academic Sports Team out of 100s of students in my state, I will be competing in the state competition for National History Day, and there was a nice write-up about my work with the local newspaper) during the application process, but the waitlisted letter said to not send more information. Should I send stuff anyway?

i got rejected from uchicago and waitlisted at NWU, which has been pretty depressing. meanwhile, i got into berkeley, which i really dont wanna go to. i really hope i get into NWU eventually, but they said less than 200 kids get in from the waitlist, which is tiny compared to the 22000 kids that didnt get in.

don’t send more information!!! DO send a letter expressing your continued interest in NU.

Waitlisted!! I haven’t yet properly analyzed my emotions!!Am I supposed to be happy or sad??? or :(???

I’ll go with :|

How do they pick people from the waitlist?
Do they review everyone again?

i got waitlisted too, pretty upset, i agree begign post about not imaging myself anywhere else. does anyone know any past stats on how many got waitlisted. if its under a 1000 ill be hopeful but with that 0-200 range anything over a 1000 would be a bit uncomforting. so i take it nu’s percent admitted went from about a 22% to an 8%… Its hard getting waitlisted when you feel like your stats would be well fitted (ACT at the upper quartile and solid GPA)

According to Northwestern’s common data set, they had about a 3000 student waitlist two years ago (probably bigger this year). 1300 accepted positions on it, and somewhere between 0 and 500 have been accepted off of it (according to the 2007 CDS).

I, too, was waitlisted.

It’s worse than a rejection.

Someone on the first page said the waitlist is 5000+ people long.

The positive energy on this thread is really encouraging. I’m just going to throw some statistics and probability in, please don’t mind me:

So there are 2000 actual spaces. But I’m sure NU sent out more than 2000 acceptance letters (say 2500? 3000? As they know yield is never 100%). Throw us 5000+ waitlisters into the mix and…

I don’t mean to be a buzzkill and I’m devastated like everyone else. Think I will just go to some gamers forum now…

I think Northwestern is getting quite similar to WUSTL. So long a waitinglist.

The thing about NU’s waitlist is that… NU is a ‘safety’ for the HYPSM and Ivies kids right? So if those people got into their HYPSMIvies, that’ll free up quite a few spaces.

Maybe the best place to be right now is off CC.com, and off the edge of a cliff…
haha, i’m joking of course.

I hope I hope I hope I hope I get off the watlist!! I want to go to NU SO bad and I refuse to give up hope, no matter what people say! I want it sooooo bad…

Waitlisted… I guess I was too confident.

Waitlisted at NU and UChicago. No luck in Illinois, or with my reaches, rather. Eek.

It seems like there aren’t TOO many people on the wait list this year. Which is definetely good news for those of us who are (:
