Waitlist

Admissions,
How many kids were put on the wait list this year? How many got off in the past few years? How are the students chosen who get off the wait list? Thank you!

Hi, I just got waitlisted from W&M today (i’m an out-of-state white female from MD… poor chances…) and the letter had this information:

“Typically, 1,000-1,200 students are on the active waitlist.”
“The number [admitted from the waitlist] has varied tremendously in previous years. Sometimes no offers were made. In other years the number of offers has ranged from 12 to 120. In some years we were able to admit only in-state students from the waitlist in order to achieve the intended in-state/out-of-state ratio.”
“If we determine that we will use the waitlist, we will re-evaluate all applicants who have accepted a place on the waitlist.”

(I’m not sure if you already knew this and were looking for more specific info. If so, sorry!)

^i guess they like waitlisting white females from MD, because that description fits me too and i was also waitlisted haha.

White female from CT, waitlisted. I don’t think I’ll stay on the waitlist…I was accepted to a school that was higher on my list.

bummer, i wasn’t even waitlisted

waitlisted. white female from NC. enough said.

Waitlisted, white female from NJ. I’ll probably stay on the waitlist. Right now I’m deciding about putting a deposit on either Colgate or Providence… Sucks because W&M was tied with Notre Dame as my #1 and I got rejected from ND.

I’m probably gonna be rejected. I’ll be so lucky if I even get waitlisted! I’m OOS, half-French, half-Maori.

Female from CA.

My daughter will be very disappointed.

I’m disappointed too because I thought it was the best match for her.

UCSB – Admitted with Regents Scholarship
UCSD – Admitted with Regents Scholarship
Haverford – Admitted
Georgetown – Waitlisted
W&M – Waitlisted

Ah crap, the stress rises…

WildHorses,

Haverford is a great school!

Yes, Haverford is great. Also a little small.

She may accept. However, she’s also a rah-rah-school-spirit kind of kid. She’ll be happy anywhere, but IMO Georgetown or W&M are better fits. Wish admissions had agreed with me.

OTOH, she’s very lucky. No out-and-out rejections so far.

white female from tx

OOS Female.

UCB admitted
UCLA admitted
UCSD admitted

Waitlisted! I’m actually happy about that hahahaha

I was waitlisted. Just got my letter today. I’m bummed but W&M was not my first choice. However, I would like to remain on the wait list but information about how to do this was not enclosed in my letter. I received a green piece of paper with a check yes, but there was no envelope or address to send it to.

Can anyone help me??

I was waitlisted too, but I’m not putting my name in it. I really liked VA tech when I visited it.

Samesies.

Asian female NJ.
Theres probably no chance at admittance via waitlist since im OOS. bleh. Condolences to everyone on WL or rejected

I hope W & M Admissions will post this week to give a more specific idea of how students are selected from the waitlist. Although the most recent common data sets (from 2008 and 2009) show that many more students accept a place on the waitlist than are eventually admitted, some students do come in from the waitlist each year. If you decide to remain on the list, it can’t hurt to write the admissions office a letter reiterating your strong interest in the school, and updating them on any recent achievements, awards, recognitions, etc.

The statistics for transferring are fairly encouraging. W & M admits transfer students in both spring and fall semesters. The CDS info showed about a 50 percent acceptance rate for transfer students in 2008-2009; it was slightly lower in 2009-2010.

Hoping that all of you who didn’t hear the results you were hoping for from W & M will hear (or have already heard) good news from other wonderful schools.

White female from Michigan here. I’m quite sad about the W&M waitlist, especially because OOS applicants seem to be at even more of a disadvantage here.

Waitlisted at Carleton and UChicago as well; accepted to WPI/Rose-Hulman/some lower tier universities/Michigan/Smith/Wellesley.
