and i was wondering if any of you guys has heard anything yet

i was pretty bummed when i heard that a girl with a lot less gpa, sat scores, ec and awards got in and i was waitlisted... i am guessing it had to be the financial issue as well as my korean nationality since she was a fairly wealthy mexican american

so,,, any news?

what are you guys doing to make your applications better?

You know it might also just be attitude that got her in but not you. or maybe her essays were better than yours. Not everything is depending on “achievements” or nationality.

That being said, SATs, GPA and Awards are not necessarily what get you into Grinnell.

have you read my essays? i do not have an attitude and as a person who doesn’t know me, it’s not fair for you to judge me. i just said i was bummed, is there any problem with that? is it wrong to be sad about trying so hard for 4 years and not getting in?

and i disagree, a lot does depends on nationality and money. especially this year and especially if you are hispanic.

Guys, she’s asking about other waitlistees, not about why she wasn’t accepted. (Although I’d like to put in my opinion: Korean-Americans probably aren’t at a disadvantage when applying for midwestern liberal arts schools, which usually don’t attract a lot of Asian-Americans. Or are you international? International kids have it much tougher…)

Anyway, you can write another letter about why you love Grinnell so, send in extra letters, show off something that wasn’t in your application before, etc. Being on a waitlist is some more tough waiting. Good luck!

thank you birdhouse
i am actually 100% korean

i have been sending emails about new accomplishments every week or two
but most of the kids in the waitlist do that so i was wondering if there was anything else i could do.

also, now that it is actually past the may first deadline, is it okay to call and ask if they have any news on the waitlists?

^ I would wait until Tuesday to call. The Admissions office is closed over the weekend and I’m pretty sure they need some time figuring out how to proceed.

I was not judging you, I don’t know you. I just said that admission is not solely depending on nationality and money.

I’m a WLed Chinese applicant. I already asked the office and they said if the AO did want to consider about the alternatives, they would turn to the wait list beginning May 1st…So there would be still a kinda long period of waiting.

Actually I think the nationality is not a big deal, but for int’l students, asking for money would be a really tough task…I’m also suffering~…

@wait4ba: I’m an intl’ too, may I ask you what reply did you get? It would be very helpful, because I don’t want to bother them by phoning, since I guess that most wait listed people are calling the AO now (pm me please if you would prefer).

i heard from a reliable source that grinnell is overenrolled with internationals and they will not be using the waitlist for internationals this year, most likely with domestics as well. I wouldn’t keep my hopes up especially if you asked for fin aid. That’s what I did at least, after I heard the news…

Hey guys, well I don´t want to be a fun killer, but I went all the way from Colombia to Grinnell, to visit and see the opportunities, and when I called last week, Mr Edwards told me, this year the were over enrolled by 14 students so they won´t be able to take anyone from the ait list unless, some of the already matriculated students would say no to grinnel to go to other school in which they were wait listed, that´s what he told me!! it´s pretty sad I know, but it´s better for us to realize that it´s very unlikely to be in the class of 2014 of Grinnell

so, as anuragSarkar has said they “would probably not be able to fully scrutinize the wait list till May 15th”, then after 15th May will we get rejections? or will we have to wait until June or later ? I heard about an Ivy, which notified a person in July…

what are the chances that at least 14 Grinnell enrolled students were waitlisted at HYPSM and WASP colleges then admitted from the waitlists at those colleges?

Hey guys!! what has been happening with the waitlist?! I will love to have more Internationals peers this fall, and don’t give up, sometimes you have to wait to get what you want buy ultimately you get it!!! good luck Y’all.

Other threads in the parent’s forum said that Grinnell is among the schools officially not going to their waiting list. So I think anyone on it is out of luck at this point.
