How many of you on the waitlist sent in extra things? i.e. additional letters of rec, statements, etc. I've been reading on other posts of people sending in these supplements and being successful in getting off of the waitlist (for other schools, Columbia, etc.), but I haven't done anything. Does this hurt me significantly? Is it common to send in things like that? Like will most of the waitlistees have sent in things?

Arg. Also, I haven't received anything yet, and I heard the admissions office mailed last thursday (19th). Is this is a good or bad sign (I live in San Diego, CA). Did anyone get e-mails? I'm so frantic right now, I just want to know what to do! Berkeley housing payments are due soon... Should all of the notifications/decisions be made by the end of this week?

Also, I read that yield rate for minorities was low - will being a minority help my chances? (Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander category on app, but specifically Filipino). Any input is very much appreciated - substantiated or not.

I sent in a personal statement, an additional recommendation letter, and a list of updated ECs. From what I've heard, I'm not sure if it'll hurt you because you didn't send anything, but I have heard that it doesn't hurt to send in new information.

Regarding notification, there I'm as lost as you!

Does any one know if I should contact the Admin office if I took another AP that they weren't aware of (self study) or should I wait until the results come out? Also, I am interested in studying bioeng. at the school I have confirmed my place at; should I also tell H this, as when I first applied to the schools, I stated that I was interested in biological sciences, but now my interests have changed.

In answer to your question, I sent in an update letter (not really a personal statement) and two teacher recs from my music teachers (because I had just won some competitions). In retrospect, I see that I may have put too much emphasis on music, especially as I don't intend to become a professional musician (I'll just participate in a chamber or orchestra). May be I'll send in another letter (though its probably a bit late) focusing on my academic interests. I haven't received any notification (no mail is delivered on sat, sun, or monday, b/c today is a holiday, so I expect a rejection tomorrow).

No, I think it is a bit too late. You should have included the self-study APs in your original application, and your choice of concentration (major) at another college does not matter to them. Your chance of being accepted off the waitlist does not include your major choices. It is more of a toss up of your extracurriculars. Furthermore, I don't think a change between biology and biological engineering makes much of a difference, unlike, let's say, a change between biology and a very obscure field, but I think Harvard will read into that anyway.

Just cross your fingers and good luck! You never know what might happen (I was deferred EA and accepted in the RD round), so I know how you feel.
