So everyone, I've been waitlisted. I think though that I'd be accepted, considering I sent them a link to my art blog with my work (if interested, its here: Wyatt DeMasters: Artist in the Making ) and I picked up another AP class last semester, so that makes 3 AP's and one Honors class in my senior schedule. I also got a 3.83 unweighted GPA first semester (not sure how UC GPA works).

BUT - in the admission portal, it said that applications would be submitted by April 15th and reviewed after May 1st. Aren't decisions for other schools due then? And how can I agree to my colleges if I don't know I'll get into UCLA?

And what about financial aid? I can't afford it if it is too costly - so when would i find out?

@wdemasters02 I see your art blog and your works… AWESOME!!
I am also wait-listed. And with the same question :"(cited)How can I agree to my colleges if I don’t know I’ll get into UCLA?"
Is there anyone can help answer this question?

@KayiiLu thank you very much - I love hearing feedback about my art. And so far, I have yet to hear anything relating to that question. I applied to USC so I’ll find out next week, but I don’t think I can wait another month +.

On the waitlist FAQ for UCLA (I got waitlisted too), they said that you have to send in a SIR for another school by May 1, so you have an official spot for the fall. If you get off the waitlist and get accepted into UCLA, you have to send the SIR in in 3 days. Then you have to find a way to cancel the SIR from your other school, meaning you will be throwing away your deposit.

I don’t know about the financial aid, sorry :/

@mahmah all it basically said was,[paraphrasing] “Dear so-and-so, After looking through 80,000+ applicants this year, we regret to inform you we cannnot offer you admission to UCLA at this time. However, because of your outstanding academic record/application, we would like to offer you a spot in UCLA’s freshman class of 2017 if a spot were to come available after May 1st, 2013.”
then there was a box telling us to send them our midterm year grades, any new extracurricular or new aspects to our application, and our spring semester schedule.

All i sent was my grades, my last semester schedule, and then a brief explanation about my blog, and how i think they missed out on seeing what i’m passionate about.

Even though I’m bummed about it I still feel pretty happy. Where I go to school, people don’t apply generally to schools as prestigious as UCLA - so to be wait listed, I still feel honored.

@wdemasters02
I love your attitude ! When I knew that I was waitlisted , I just felt dizzy and sad. I should be more positive…
I truly think you should have been admitted and I hope that you can succeed in getting into UCLA at last!!
And sorry… I don’t know much about financial aid… But
1.Did you apply for any private universities ? Because I think they are more generous about giving money.
2.Will you consider the loan ?

I put on that box my grades,schedule, and extracurricular I am attending right now… Now I am considering writing a demonstration to show my interest and enthusiasm towards UCLA.

@KayiiLu, be positive - no sense in getting down on yourself. You should be proud of yourself!
As for applying to private universities, yes I did. I applied to Loyola Marymount and received a scholarship and invite to the Honors Program (woohoo!) and at USC, I’m still waiting for a decision. Rumor has it that USC is excellent with financial aid, and since my family makes very little (single mom, in college too), I’m hoping that USC will make college affordable for my family and I.
Considering loans is a toughy - just because my sister is in a ton of debt from her college tuition (she graduated last year) and my mom cosigned her loans. So, I’m unsure whether the banks will allow my mother to cosign mine.

What about you KayiiLu? Are you an USC applicant?

@wdemasters02
I am not an USC applicant. Right now I am considering UC-Davis or Tulane which gives me scholarship 22000/year.And waiting on the waitlist of UCLA.My dream school is UMich-Ann Arbor (no decision notification yet). And although now ,since my family situation becomes better (parents are kind of rebuilding everything), money is not a necessary factor of decision, I feel guilty that I have to cost so much money to go to a university. However , I have confidence that I will earn a lot of money after graduation, so it is worth the investment ! Anyway , wdemasters02 , you and I both need to relax ! We are lucky because we both have choices. Imagine even the worst thing happened, you can go to Loyola Marymount and I can go to Tulane, and without heavy financial burden ! What’s more, wherever we go at last, we can transfer to another university if we are good enough after our freshman year.
ps. my top 2 : UMich, UCLA
Now let’s just wait and refine the information on our waitlist. I hope everything goes well on you that you get the financial aid and go to USC or UCLA !
