waitlisted...ANy hope?

Just got waitlisted.....does penn take anyone off this list or should i just die now?

I dont know if I’ll accept a spot on the waitlist or not. But I’m also not crushed that I wasn’t accepted so…

Just go waitlisted to Stanford yesterday too…but nevertheless, this is SO much better than being rejected!

I got waitlisted as well…luckily I thought I would get flat out rejected so this is a nice surprise! Think I’m going to attend UVA, but might stay on the wait list to see what happens! I think there’s hope.

I totally agree, I’m happy to be waitlisted but I will put a deposit for either UNC or lehigh and then just wait and see about penn

^^You’re lucky, UNC was the school I was DYING to go to and ironically the only one I was flat out rejected at…still I think I am going to LOVE UVA!!

UVA is a great school though! And technically higher ranked than UNC on us news, though I definitely don’t consider myself a rankings whore. Penn is the only top 20 school I applied to b/c it was the only one I wanted to apply to.

If we accept a spot on the waitlist, we have to list the other colleges that we got accepted/waitlisted/rejected to? How is this going to affect us? If I put colleges I was rejected to, is this going to hurt my chances?

I was wondering about this too…

I got off the waitlist last year and I applied to Wharton. I believe they only took around 30 last year out of 3000, but you never know! I sent in an update letter just reaffirming my passion for the school and telling them of recent accomplishments. I think it made a difference so I recommend you guys do the same!

I haven’t posted on CC for a while but I was bored and was checking Penn decisions and your name caught my eye, since I went to Syosset too.

I think you’ll be able to enjoy wherever you go to, but a little advice from one Syosset kid to another: make contact with your regional Penn counselor. Show that you are still very interested, and it will go a long way. Considering you got a likely letter from Columbia, you are clearly very qualified and I wouldn’t be surprised if Penn waitlisted you just because they weren’t sure how serious you were about attending Penn.
Trust me, it’s incredibly helpful to contact the regional officer. When I visited Penn Previews with my other Syosset acceptees, the lady knew each of our names off the topic her head. She clearly read our applications very thoroughly, and she’s likely the one that would be making the pitch to the admissions committee to reconsider your application.

From a DP article: “Of the 3,000 students who were waitlisted at Penn this year, 1,800 chose to stay on the waitlist. As of June 14, only 40 have been admitted, according to Dean of Admissions Eric Furda.” This was for 2010

^hyo_bye

No, you are wrong. Penn waitlisted one because one didn’t get enough votes at the committee meeting, not because they are 80% sure the kids will go to Harvard instead. Penn won’t base it’s decision of acceptance or waitlist on the likelihood of one to attend it.

I’m not wrong; I didn’t say that Penn wouldnt accept someone likely going to Harvard. I mean that Penn wants to know that you are interested and put in the time to research it and whatnot, and show that you want to go and are a good fit.

As a current penn student, it’s not like I’m criticizing their admissions behavior, just helping out. Contacting the regional admission officer helps, period.
