Waitlisted! Anyone share my fate

Also waitlisted. ): ):
Sooooo depressing. I love(d) UChicago soo much. Yeah and I also got waitlisted from GWU (icing, cake).
Well, there’s still hope right? At least that’s what I keep telling myself…

seems to be the 1000th waitlist-er

also waitlisted.
I’m just happy that I wasn’t rejected, honestly. It means that they liked something about me.
I’ll be staying on the list, but am a little nervous about second semester grades. Should we do anything else, such as send a little of interest or an update on any ECs?

While I didn’t expect to get in (my test scores are low for chicago-- 2050 sat and 32 act), I can’t help but wonder whether if I signed up to interview on time that would push admissions in my favor. But no use beating myself up over it, what’s done is done. While Chicago wasn’t my first choice, I really love the school and am crossing my fingers for the best.

(I was just rejected at GW, of which my scores were in the top 25%. I thought I would be getting a rejection from Chicago, if anywhere. Admissions are weird.)

Yea Chicago really waitlisted alot of people this year.

I think a lot of schools will be relying on their waitlists a lot more than usual because of the economy. All statistics used in the past have no meaning this year–they have no idea how many people will actually enroll or not because of money, whereas they usually do, thus the waitlist.

I’m happy that I’m not rejected…but I have to go through this tedious process again…I just want it to be over!!!

^ thats what she said

bahaha sorry i couldnt help it. but yeah, in reference to 09 admissions…this is nuts

Haha, that was good spacejam…but I’m a guy.

JUST KIDDING

But anyway, after looking at everyone’s stats, I don’t even know how I thought I would get accepetd in the first place har har

Wow, I am really surprised at looking at some of the stellar stats that got waitlisted.

Oh, yes I was also waitlisted. But I probably won’t stay on since I got admitted to other schools that are relatively better.

At least it wasn’t an outright rejection…There goes my parents chance of me sticking close to home in the Midwest.

Hmm, why won’t anyone claim that UChicago has Tufts Syndrome?

Which is…?

Overabundance of waitlisting …

Supply far outstrips demand here…

Isn’t Tufts Syndrome when a school wait lists students who are “overqualified”, meaning that they think the student would have probably had it as a back-up. So they wait-list the student to protect the yield?

I do not think UChicago has Tufts because I see that the waitlistees are in big spectrum of GPA/Test Score/ECs ranges. It’s not as if every waitlistee has below-average stats nor is it that they above-average for UChicago. It’s just all out there.

waitlisted too. thought i would be rejected, kinda surprised. but THANK GOD i’m not rejected outright coz of my sucky SAT scores. but so many waitlists already… i’m not very optimistic

I was–probably due to my rank (mid-twenties out of 600 isn’t good enough, apparently. I thought I had a very good chance with my SAT scores, rigor, awards, ECs, etc.). I admit I didn’t want to go /that/ badly, but I spent a heck of a lot of time on my app, especially the required additional essay. This waitlist doesn’t unnerve me in the sense that I don’t have another place to go (I got into my 3rd choice) but it doesn’t seem to bode well for my remaining prospects. sigh

There’s just too many amazing people in this world!

So does anyone exactly know how they pick people off the waitlist? I know it’s unranked, so do they just put our names in a bucket and pick out a few to attend?

I was also waitlisted @ GWU, as some others on here have mentioned. Not feeling optimistic about my remaining schools.

On another note, has anyone else NOT recieved the email saying you can access your decision? I still haven’t gotten it, lulz.

I was wondering how they picked the kids who get in too. If it isn’t ranked, I really don’t understand. Maybe just the kids with the best final year grades? I want more information and not just sit here and wallow in self-pity.

i have heard from a counselor that it’s not exactly randomized, even if it is “unranked.” however they pick it, i really want to get in. this makes me so angry though…to have this process stretched out even into the summer.

I don’t really think it’s fair if they pick people based on their final grades. I mean each school is different, and some people take harder classes than others, etc.
