Waitlisted! Anyone share my fate

^butternut

I didn’t get an e-mail, but I also checked like the moment they released.

Maybe they assumed that EA deferred people would be loyal enough to check.
(too bad they were so kind-hearted as to waitlist both of us)

Same, texasco, I cannot even begin to imagine this process stretching until the end of June! Once I hear from my remaining schools, I’m definitely calling to get more info on how they pick and what I can do. I just don’t want to seem pestering because I read somewhere else to only send in final grades, anything more is unnecessary and not wanted.

I never got the email, but I checked right when decisions came up. Maybe if you checked your decision quickly, the system doesn’t bother to send an email.

I never got an email from Chicago notifying me my decision arrived (I applied EA) lol.

I was waitlisted as well, but I’m actually relieved because I was afraid I would be outright rejected>>I bet I have the lowest gpa here = 3.56
I also didn’t get an interview and didn’t submit the optional extra essay…
But my supp essay was absolutely phenomenal hehe so i think that must have been it
UChicago is my absolute favorite school!!! so I am definitely staying on the waitlist!
Some people were saying UChicago doesn’t like to receive extra materials from waitlisters…I can’t even send another teacher rec??? what if I complete a giant independent research project and win an award for it…can I send them that???
I cannot accept this…I need to send them stuff!!!

Waitlisted as well. Actually it’s amazing that I got waitlisted, considering my very low stats;; and I didn’t think my essay was super good either;; but sigh all these waitlists/rejections are seriously sucking the life outta me! :'-(

Is it okay to even send a letter of interest to them if we are waitlisted? I heard that’s okay from other schools, but is that too much from UChicago? Can we also still use the Application Update feature if we are waitlisted?

do you have to make a deposit by may 1?
it never mentioned that online

You accept and deposit for another school.

Then if you get off the waitlist, you accept the Chicago offer. You lose the deposit, but you get to attend Chicago.

^ what about the financial aid? do you think there will be some left for us? i heard that for JHU the waitlisted taken off the list don’t get nothing, just the spot, because everything has been dispatch to the acceptees before!! so do you think it’s the same for Chicago? because i can’t pay that much money with no FA!! my Safety is a free ride … i’m very sad… i would have fit at Chicago!!

UChicago is committed to meeting all demonstrated need, so you will be offered the same aid package if you get in off of the waitlist as you would have if you were offered EA or RD admission- no merit scholarship possibilities, but finaid and Odyssey scholarship, if applicable, will still apply.

Yay waitlist…

I’ve heard that colleges use the waitlist to even out numbers, so if they need more CA people, more CA people will get off the waitlist, stuff like that.

Yeah, or more males, females, minorities, bassoonists, future world leaders, first generation, etc.

From what I have read, the waitlist is used to balance out the class and the school’s institutional priority – so a person really cannot gauge their chance to get off, because it really just depends if the school needs an applicant like oneself.

^Well isn’t that an epic task when the waitlist pool is seemingly so gigantic?

Unless all the waitlistees chose to spill on CC…

Oh good think I’m a future world leader then

NOT

Waitlisted! Since then I’ve also been waitlisted at Northwestern, too. Plus I’ve still got three more schools to hear back from.

Chicago was my #2, so unless I get into Stanford (hahahahahaha no) then I’m definitely jumping on the list. Good thing I haven’t totally checked out of my classes yet, since they look at final grades.

Got waitlisted for UChicago for Economics. Any idea what was their acceptance rate from wait listed candidates?

@giddy: According to the letter, “over the past five years, between one and twenty-nine percent of those students who accepted a place on the waiting list were offered admission (with the average for that same period being eight percent).”

I hope that the acceptance rate is exceptionally high this year…

Anything one can do to raise one’s chances?

waitlist #3!

i just can’t seem to get accepted anywhere…
