WAITLISTED APPLICANTS Class of 2019

Dear NedTNolan : One of my data points has just been updated. The EA pool consisted of 5,500 applications this year for the Class of 2019.

Ned:

while my cyber-friend scottj doesn’t need my help, I can say that my family was in a similar situation several years back. Heck, my D was the absolute last person ‘admitted’ to BC that year – we live on the west coast, and the acceptance letter by snail mail didn’t arrive until after the 4th of July – so, I can feel your pain (as a former president was fond of saying). But, as a current candidate once famously/infamously said, ‘what does it matter’? And that is exactly what I told my D and blue-mom while we engaged with the colleges that had sent fat envelopes.

My point is that it really doesn’t matter to you – or anyone else on the WL – if there are 50, 150, or 550 on the list. And even if BC told you, the actual number is really meaningless. And that is bcos a college goes to its WL to fills holes, whether they be college (nursing, educ, biz, arts/sciences), gender (need to space the Frosh in the dorms), prospective major, prospective ECs (gotta maintain an active theater & music department), geography (that one WL from Alaska/Hawaii will win nearly every time over someone from NJ), and a whole host of other factors besides GPA/SAT and personal interest.

All I can say is, hang in there, the wait is definitely worth it, or at least was to our family. We still miss Chestnut Hill.

Good luck.

This was posted at 8:40pm by scottj on another thread Dear Friends : Earlier this evening, I was speaking with an associate inside the admissions circle for Boston College who asked for anonymity. The number that was being discussed was “less than two dozen” pulls from the waitlist. While that figure could change, I did want to share with the community just how sparingly the waitlist will be used. (I hope that maybe the number will increase in the coming weeks)…Massmom2015

@scottj and @Massmom2015 - For the purpose of disputing incorrect data:

  1. The Class of 2019 submitted just under 10,000 Early Action applications, by far the highest in our history and a monumental increase over previous years.

  2. “Anonymous sources” claiming fewer than 24 students being offered from the waitlist is untrue. Specific numbers have not been determined.

Dear DevlinHall208 : Thank you and I am happy to be corrected on both points. The EA count of 5,500 was a data point from May 2014 which was misidentified. This is my first reading of a number approaching 10,000 EA applications, so thank you for sharing that with the community.

As for the waitlist count, I will certainly defer to you, as a spokesperson for BC as a College Rep, to indicate the final and proper number.

Please note that the Boston College web site identifies the wait list in any given year being accessed for some 50 positions on the low end. Recognizing that “your mileage may vary”, given (a) the higher number of acceptances this year compared to last and (b) the usage of the word sparingly in Boston College’s own press release, one can easily conclude that the low end number would be smaller than typical ranges.

off the waitlist !! just received a call. Hopefully you all will be getting calls soon

@onward2745 Did they send you an email also, where do you live and what school did you apply to, my d applied to CAS hopefully she will get a call to!..Praying

@onward2745 OMG…I’m so nervous I really want to go to BC! I’m praying that I also get a call…what school did you apply to? What did they say?

No email just a call. I live in MA and I applied to CAS as well. I’m praying for you too !!

I applied to CAS, and they said I will be receiving my acceptance letter and financial aid soon & I’m off the wait list Hopefully good news comes your way !

@onward2745 All we can do right now is hope for the best…glad you made it!

@DevlinHall208 I’m curious, the post said that all waitlist applicants would be contacted through email? Someone just said they were taken off the waillist by phone call…is that true and if so are more calls coming?

Got accepted off the waitlist, I got a phone call.
Already sent my deposit in for BU so I guess it’s too late. oh well. :expressionless:
Good luck to everyone still waiting!

Does anyone know how international students on the waitlist get notified? If it’s also by phone or if it’s by email? Thanks!! Waiting anxiously! BC has always been my first choice!

@nikomalingo So did you accept the offer from BC or did you turn it down?

@nikomalingo congrats on the offer even if you did end up turning it down! May I ask what college you applied to? CAS, CSOM, etc.?

@Massmom2015 : They asked me if I was still interested, and I said yes. They said that even if I am interested, I don’t have to commit. They’re going to send me financial aid when I send in my parent’s tax returns.

@ocomea15 : Carroll School of Management, Finance

John Mahoney (Director of Undergrad Admissions) was actually the one who called, which was pretty cool haha.

@nikomalingo Do you know if their still making phone calls tonight? Patiently waiting…what schools did you apply to? I applied to CAS, live in Western Mass…nervous… :expressionless:

@eagertogetin I’m not sure if they’re still making phone calls tonight. I actually got my call around 2 originally (but I was in school so a voicemail was left, and I dont check my voicemail lol) But then he called again around 6.

@nikomalingo thanks for the reply! Im also a CSOM hopeful, glad too see that they are pulling some off the waitlist for the business school!
