Waitlisted Applicants

Let's discuss our waitlisted status. Are you going to accept the waitlist? What are the chances of getting in this year? Do we have to show continued interest? How?

I think not being ranked is both good and bad. On the good side, we each have an equal chance (kind of) at being re-reviewed and being pulled off of the list. On the bad, none of us have any idea just how realistic are chances are for admission to Stanford. I plan on just waiting it out and hoping for the best. I really think that Stanford won't need letters of interest because just the fact that we are willing to extend the near-waterboarding dread of college admissions an extra month. There is a great chance that Stanford will be using the wait list this year as they already stated that they didn't want to overadmit, and will gladly go to the wait list is need be.

yeah, rszanto i completely agree. however you will find that you are surrounded by yale waitlisters here my friend ;)

I am going to accept my position on the waitlist probably, but I'm probably also going to tell Princeton I'm going. I really do feel like admissions is such a crapshoot if I get waitlisted at Yale and into Pton. Or, I don't know.

To be honest, I feel like if I got off the waitlist and went, I will forever know that I was waitlisted, that I wasn't good enough, that I was sub-par to the rest of the people around me. It might sound ridiculous b/c I know I'm qualified and will do well, but that will always be on my mind.

Sorry. I'm an idiot. Meant to relate my Stanford waitlist to Yale but obviously my mid-post ADD took control of my body!

anyone know how many were accepted off the waitlist last year? any expectations for this year?? ahhh i wanna go to yale!

I was also accepted at Princeton but WL at Yale and am pretty sure that I will pursue the WL, at least to give me some more choice... Ironically, I was rejected at my first choice, Stanford, but was not rejected at any of the top Ivies.

ecahng08 & HandsAcrossTime/ Please.......... I know will sound selfish and jealous. It would be great if you guys decided to stay on the waitlist, because I know it is just horrible to not try and regret later. But, well, Yale is my first choice and I was rejected by two of the top Ivies and.. well... Yale is the only one I've got. I don't want to prevent you guys from accepting the waitlist, but I can't help but feel jealous and anxious, because I will be competing for a seat on the waitlist with people who already got accepted to amazing ivy leagues like Princeton...:( sorry. I just so want to go to Yale and .......urrrrrrrrrghhhhhhhh I am disgusted at myself for writing this. I mean I have no right to block anyone from trying to get into another school, especially if it is their first choice. Aaaaaaarrrrrrghhh!!!!!!!!!! Forgive me. I am just still tormented by the decision yesterday:(
Well everyone who is accepting a place on the waitlist, good luck!!!

does anyone have last year's waitlist statistics?

i second ditsy. you guys who got into princeton, can you just, erm... forget about yale please?

some of us need it more than others.

in harvard's email, it said some years harvard accepts over 100 students off the wl. i assume that to be similar to this year and similar to yale.

I got waitlisted and I won't be going. That's less competition for you guys!

Yeah I do think it is somewhat wrong for a Princeton (ranked # ONE by USNEWS) acceptee to sit on the yale waitlist. They have the chance for an amazing university, whereas some ( like me) face a large financial burden now and, if accepted to Yale, can help their parents out a lot because Yale gives more financial aid.

dna3- here are the number of people who got off the waitilist
class of 2011: 50
2010: 56
2009:0
2008: 8

I got this from a yale daily news article:
Yale Daily News - Ivy admissions prompt frenzy

Hi! I was waitlisted!

I'm actually pretty excited about this considering I thought I would be rejected! I didn't have an interview either! Wohoo! But of course, I know nothing about waitlist, so what's the deal?

I got a likely (followed by admission) from Dartmouth and that school seems very welcoming! Is it worth it to stay on Yale's list?

Even if you are admitted by other prestigious schools, you have all the right in the world to stay on the waitlist. The applicants who are only looking at Yale (me) will probably appreciate you not pursuing Yale.

did you all receive US mail with the waitlist decision? My S is waitlisted, but he did not receive the US Mail yet. What is the US mail besides the letter? Thanks.

I'm dropping off the waitlist.... Princeton and Stanford are much more appleaing :)

Did you all receive US mail with the waitlist decision? My S is waitlisted, but he did not receive the US Mail yet. What is IN the US mail besides the letter? Thanks.

Just received the mail. In the Reply Card, how do you fill in "I Plan to attend:"?
is it OK to put Yale to show your interest in Yale, or the University which admitted you?

I wonder if there is a Yale Waitlist group on Facebook....
