Waitlisted at Caltech... what are my chances of getting into MIT?

Just wondering if my chances would be lower or higher since after searching previous years' CC posts I've seen more acceptances from Caltech in conjunction with rejections from MIT.

And on another note: Do you think Caltech pushed back their decisions just so they could release it before MIT? I thought Caltech was releasing it at 3/20 but all of a sudden they released it this Saturday... makes me wonder if it was a tactic to get to the students first before MIT did.

lovelybones- Caltech has an unofficial tradition of releasing decisions roughly two days before MIT does on Pi Day.

but your rejection from one school doesn’t characterize your admission/rejection to another. maybe you have something that MIT likes but cal didnt

I would be very surprised if this were true. If we had access to all cross-admit data from everywhere, I am confident that we would see that acceptance to Caltech is correlated (though not perfectly by any stretch of the imagination) with acceptance to MIT.

Eh, we’re in the same position LovelyBones. Let’s just hope for the best!

Sigh…same position, although I think my chances are extremely slim, seeing as 1) I don’t think my stats are the greatest, especially since I am a “typical” Asian applicant applying for biomed, and 2) my interviewer has only had one student admitted from my area throughout her several years of interviews…

I’m in the same position as well I believe, my stats are fine (the only downturn being SAT, I gave TOEFL and fared better there though) and maybe on my extracurriculars a bit (didn’t had much opportunities yet I utilized whatever I could). I wasn’t able to get an interview though (the capacity for scheduling an interview with my interviewer got full)

Same here; waitlisted by Caltech and waiting for MIT! xD

@Lovely- I pretty much agree with CPU.
Personally, I was accepted EA for MIT, but deferred/rejected for Caltech, so who knows. Good luck to you!

good luck to all, MIT ftw

And my son’s best friend was accepted at Caltech and waitlisted at MIT. I think the waitlist shows that you are in the ballpark. So that’s a good sign, but no guarantee of anything.

Last year, I was waitlisted by Caltech and rejected by MIT. I wouldn’t let this discourage you, though; one person is an extremely small sample! Good luck!

I was rejected by Caltech, and accepted by MIT. Never thought that would happen…

I got waitlisted by Caltech, and accepted by MIT!!! Oh my gosh! From the posts in this threat, I was expecting a rejection or a waitlist… I thought there was no hope for me! lksjdf;lkajsd;lfj;asd

EXCUSE ME WHILE I ECSTATICALLY GO RUN AROUND THE NEIGHBORHOOD AND HUG EVERY SINGLE PERSON I PASS BY

Mine is the opposite: accepted by Caltech but waitlisted by MIT. I’d really love to go to Boston though. ):

Congrats LovelyBones!
